I used parts of the model touch-up tutorial, and the rest was playing with layers. I wanted the image to pop out, in a good way. Not too sure I did to well. The eyes are looking a bit demonic... |

Did you want orange skin? They whites of the eyes are white, but the skin...I don't like it.

Like I said...I was playing and couldn't get some of the stuff right. No, orange skin isn't what I was going for. Any advice on making this image better? |

I'd say stay closer to the original. The edited image looks way overdone and fake, especially the skin.
Play with the sharpness and the levels and curves buty I wouldn't change his skin tone much, it looks pretty good in the original. Maybe some neatimage but be careful, that is a program that's really easy to overuse and make images look bad. |

For skin: try Levels/Blue Channel, middle point at .90; then Hue-Sat/Red Channel, Saturation -7. You might need to go even -15 on Hue/Sat- but this will give you a start here.

i was playing with it ... in photoshop
i went to selective colour, and took the red out of a few of the colours and yellow out of a few colours. upped the black a tad (+6 i think) sharpened it, then selected the eyes and adjusted the colour of them, and sharpened them, i think i overdid it a touch tho. OH yeah, I probably should have neat imaged it a tad
edit: dang i'm too idiotic to get the photo on there right

Did you sharpen the whole image or just the face? It looks like the sharpening caused some 'funny' background distortions. I'd suggest masking the head and only sharpening there.

Overdone? In a word... no.
You will want to correct the skin color cast. A simple, easy approach to this problem is with Curves adjustments. Add a Curves adjustment layer and simply bring up a color (red, green or blue) that you want to modify and either drag the center toward or away from the color name to increase or decrease its effect. For example, if you want more red in the skin tones then you select red and drag the center toward the word red. If you want less red you drag the center away from the word red.
It is very simple and works surprisingly well with skin tones. Experiment and I think you might find you like that technique a lot.
