Here is my question as Captain:
Will you be handicapping teams? To explain further, since Team Se7endipity is clearly the most stacked team, should we be automatically be put thru to the semifinals since it is a given already?
No, seriously.....

I'm a little confused as to what I should do then if I would want to be on a team? Do I wait for someone to ask me, or should I say HEY I WANT TO PLAY TOO?????

I also would like what I need to do to join a team. Heard a lot about WPL, but never been sure of what it is. Is it like a photo a week thing, and how do you join up? Is there another website you go to. Thanks in advance. |

It's a team-based competition based on the results of DPC Challenges.
More details will be announced soon, including the method by which people will be able to form/join/be chosen by teams.
In the meantime, this thread is an announcement and question thread -- can we please tone down the team trash-talking and other celebratory but (to me anyway) unnecessary posts?

I haven't checked the history, but don't heavily stacked teams finish higher in the tournament?

Instead of a team comprised of all dudephil's competing against a team of all Scalvert's, Laurus', Goodman's, Ursula's etc., there could actually be a chance of good competetion amongst all teams.
Maybe it's more of a headache than anyone would want to mess with. Just a thought. |
I'd imagine it'd actually be slightly easier to do it this way. Random placings aren't that hard to do.
However, it'll never happen. One of the *main* draws of the W/DPL is having people able to choose a group of buddies/friends/people they know/similar styled photographers/etc. to bring together in friendly competition. The fact is, very few people actually care where they place and finish in the W/DPL unless they're close to a top spot.. and then natural competitiveness takes over of course. It's generally about the fun and comraderie(sp) and whatnot. If you start making it random teams, it'll lose that main draw, and I doubt you'd have anywhere near the number of people signing up for it. |
What I wouldn't mind seeing is an "average" cap. In other words it's like a salary cap but based on people's averages in the DPL. This would require a new stat however as using the average vote received stat is very deceiving as it doesn't reflect how a photographer is doing. For example, Joey Lawrence has a 5-ish average and we all know he ain't no 5-ish scorer. Anyway, just a thought to help balance things out in the future but I'm fine with the current format. Could be something to explore in the future though. |

Dude! I feel like I have been out of the scene for soooo long that I am utterly clueless as to what is going on. I barely pick up my cam anymore & I really, really miss it. DPC has always facilitated a place and motivation for me to pick th eole cam up. As such, I am ALL OVER THIS.
Just not sure how to go about being drafted onto a team. How does one do this?

NO! Our team has one of the Top 3 averages ever. But week by week it is such a hit or miss thing.

Didn't your team just finish in 4th (?) place in the tournament? I'd consider that a higher placement.

But what if you already have your team in place?? Will they be ripped apart because of a silly draft??
We formed our team by asking for the first 7 people that posted to the thread... Just to keep it fair. So, we may not be the greatest scoring team in the world but we are all enthusiastic and friendly and gosh darn it, we LIKE each other.
I really would hate to end up with a team where I didn't like the players. What kind of captain would that make me?? I'll tell you, a crappy one.
So, here is my question for the FAQ: HOW ARE TEAMS FORMED? |

no worries. and no draft. the member who is the team captain can select team members however they wish. the "free agent" pool is simply for people who want to be on a team to advertise their services, etc.
if the team you've used in the past still wants to work together, then just pick one member to be the "captain" and send out the invitations to whomever you want. if all teammates want to work together again, that's totally fine!
