So, here is my question for the FAQ: HOW ARE TEAMS FORMED?

no worries. and no draft. the member who is the team captain can select team members however they wish. the "free agent" pool is simply for people who want to be on a team to advertise their services, etc.

if the team you've used in the past still wants to work together, then just pick one member to be the "captain" and send out the invitations to whomever you want. if all teammates want to work together again, that's totally fine!

Okay, thanks muckpond!!!

I was honored to be the admin of the WPL for a year, which consisted of four seasons. While reading this thread it amazes me that some are worried about stacked teams. If you go and look at each team individually you will see that in most cases it not the photographer’s DPC average that makes a great team. It’s the ability to have a team with photographers that are willing to participate week after week and in each valid challenge. The more photographers’ that participate on your team, in more than one challenge gives your team more scores to obtain the highest scores from.

If your team has seven photographers and only four or five participate, the chances of the other team beating you is greater than you winning. The same applies if a photograph only participates in one of the two challenges. He or she has only one score to pull from instead of two. That alone could give the other team an advantage.

So ultimately its not about witch team has the big guns, it about which team is willing to participate on a consistent basis in each challenge. Isn’t it obvious that a team with 14 scores to obtain their top 4 scores vs. a team with only 8 scores to obtain their top 4 scores, has the advantage?

This is an AWESOME quote!! From a guy who was unfortunately weakened and eventually killed by trying to empower the weak. Ironic, huh?

Anyways, it's still true. We're not here to remove the competion, we're here to get as good as they are. This is a LEARNING SITE. It's amazing how much you learn from failure.

My "stacked" team comment was purely a trash talking joke. I am sure most people understood that to be so. Were there other more legitimate concerns? I agree it is a lot about consistent team involvement.

Hi Cutter,
Yea, I figured you were joking... My post was simply for the ones that "may not" know about the WPL, to see how each weeks scores are obtained. Then they will see that the playing field is more level than one may think. PLEASE, no one think I was bashing with my post, just pointing out some things that make the WPL and DPL great.

Thanks everyone for the opportunity that you have given me over the last year. I'm honored and have made a lot of friends.

Honestly, participating in the WPL has greatly improved my photos, and my scores.

So just because someone has a low average when they go into the season doesn't mean it will remain that way. For me, the WPL motivated me to take better photos because I was working for a team goal. And I didn't want to disapoint the team!

I think make the whole DPL/WPL thing exclusive to paying DPC members, makes another attractive perk to people ummmming and arrrring about whether to join up or not.

And now it will be integrated into DPC, will members of the winning team recieve a `purple` (for example) ribbon on their profile?

Oh by the way, my name is in the pool if anyone is interested.

Hmmm, keep the `gifs` to a minimum, shouldnt be handed out willy nilly.

The DPL will have many features that will broaden this site and I think everyone will enjoy them. Langdon, the Site Council, Clint, and myself have been sitting at the round table over a month putting the DPL together. At first we may not see all the features but they will progress with each season. Langdon and DPChallenge are doing a great job with taking the WPL and integrating it within this site. When Clint and I handed the WPL over to DPChallenge we knew it was in good hands and it will grow just as this site has over the years. Be patient as langdon puts all his spare time into this. It is a mountain of work and I give him props for all he has done. Now it’s up to us, as members and registered users, to make DPL a great success.

I know some of the details but not at liberty to discuss any of them. And there are a lot more that I don’t know. My advice is keep sending suggestions in the thread as you have been doing and langdon will surprise us with great features, some suggested and some not, like he always does.

Thanks langdon and DPChallenge,
SDW

Does Drew still have any input into the site? I see Langdons name (gawd bless `im) bandied around a lot, but it seems Drew is relegated to just a D in D&L..

Agree with everything SWhiddon said, cant wait to see the new home of WPL/PL take shape, and I am sure a lot more people will be entering.

Cheers guys, really looking forward to the changes..

Ummm, the MVP goes to one person who is determined to be the most valuable person in all of the DPL / WPL … I wouldn't say that's will or nilly.

I believe that Drew still has input but that Langdon does all the actual coding/site management ... after he's done with his day job ... : (

Drew is the guy that goes out with the baseball bat when you don't pay your dues...

What is the current process for creating a new team for Season 5? Do I have to wait until the integration with DPC is complete? Does the old WPL site still exist? I can't find it when I google it.

Thanks

There isn't an official process yet, but several people have started various forum threads regarding new teams, so I suggest you read through those and make it known that you're available in the ones that are looking for team members... or even start your own thread about starting a team. However, once the official signup process is made available, I'm sure there will be many teams looking for members at that point as well.

I think a special award/acknowledgement should be given to the team(s) with the most improved team average.
