We wouldn't have multiple page threads going on wondering about it.

So you find things that have nothing to do with each other funny? If I recall his 'crime' had nothing to do with the votes on people's photos but on his.

What I find sad (not funny) is people can't forgive. I guess those who can't knows nobody who has ever screwed up in their lives, most of which that I can think of (from drugs to lying on resumes) are far more serious than anything Rikki may have done here.

Welcome Rikki back. Ban the trolls!

Now here's a curiosity. While searching for the Rikki suspension thread, I found others that happened to have him posting (reminding me how helpful he was, actually).

This image is still visible from one of those threads. How? It's not a challenge entry - it was in Rikki's portfolio, which supposedly no longer exists.

I would welcome him back. He has served his sentence and offered his apology. Now it's time for us to forgive. But I would prefer him to come back with the same username.

No, with all due respect, they are quite related. Both (cheating to alter your own score, and "trolling" to alter others') are connected in that both involve altering scores and the voting process. That's why the following rules are in place (the 'You May Not' section is a good place to start).

Voting Rules

Me, personally, I don't care one way or the other. I don't understand why people hold him in such high regard, though. I don't miss his photography at all, because there are a plethora of better photographers on this site who haven't cheated before.

But again, it's a free world. :)

Personally, I don't like to hold grudges (not that I felt particularly personally injured at the time) so on that front, I'd not be unhappy to see him return.

I liked him as a photographer as well as his friendly and helpful forum contributions. I didn't know him personally so have no friendship issues vested.

Trust however is a difficult thing. On a site like this it's not so hard to earn initially - we all give each other the benefit of the doubt - presumed innocence until proved guilty. But that trust, once broken, will be 100 times harder to re-earn than it ever was to get in the first place.

I have no way of predicting how readily / quickly Rikki would be able to earn my trust again. I can't speak for anyone else.

However, I certainly do believe in the adage that people can change and learn from their mistakes.

If Rikki chooses to return, whilst I won't actively welcome him I certainly won't post (or feel) negatively about it either.

This is like an episode of Survivor Fiji, (on at 8pm tonight, btw).

Rikki's been sent off to Exile Island, and everyone's plotting their alliances with or against him in the Tribal council coming up in July. In my opinion, Rikki always did more to help around camp than I did, or any of you lot, so look out, your torch might be the next one to be snuffed out by Probst.

Because its a DPC Print. His DPC account should be able to be accesed. You can also have a DP Print account and not DPC... i think.

It is a measure of Rikki's charisma and likeableness that his name crops up so frequently, even though he's been suspended for quite a while now.

Perhaps it was because Rikki was so very well liked that his, well - cheating - hit so many of us so hard.

If Rikki wants to come back to DPC when his suspension is complete, I for one would welcome him. We do make mistakes. And sometimes, they are egregrious enough so that we must be punished for them.

When the punishment is over, however, it is over. Period.

Rikki? Here he is at one of our San Francisco GTGs. And yes, I still have fond memories of him and his photography.

Hmmm, even opinionated me thinks he has defintely served his time, although I am not bothered either way if he returns or not. I doubt he would want to come back though, especially if he started winning ribbons again, it wouldnt take long for people to start asking for voting patterns to be checked.

But then again he could of been amongst us all this time under a different username..

The real question is whether or not Rikki wants to come back. He is busy winning medals on another contest website.

I think that if he comes back he should have the same username ... and the history (good and bad) that goes with it. It is up to him to garner trust by being extra nice, extra careful and producing good pictures.

Strikeslip has it. I was thinking at the beginning that this could be Coronation Street or, with more imagination, a disjointed new writer short story (New Yorker, depending on current editor?). With only hearsay, I cannot judge, but I have to wonder about the 10 friends - aiding and abetting?

Rikki's action caused a world of hurt to the morale of this site but what he did cannot be un-done. The wounds will heal, the scars will fade.

If he wants to come back, fine. I, for one, will keep Forum Rules 10-14 in mind if and when he returns. Especially, "Assume Good Faith" and "Above All Play Nice."

For those who want to re-visit the pain (or understand what those of us lived through a couple of days last summer) here's the link: Ghost Accounts, Recalculations and A Suspension. I won't be reading it or reliving it again, once was enough!

I liked Rikki, he was good at what he did, but he chose to try to manipulate results.

If he comes back then I have no problems, but how could he honestly expect to compete fairly, when his every move will be watched and contested.

I hope he does come back and I wish him luck, but it will be hard gaining DPC members trust.

I didn't read the whole thread, but I will welcome him back!

Rikki's had a great collection along with a great attitude (if minus the result manipulation) !

Once a cheater...always a cheater. He destroyed the trust of an entire community by blatantly disregarding our guidelines. This was a slap in the face to each and every one of us that strives to follow the rules here. Through his many ribbons, there was always someone who didn't get their name and pic on the front page, so that can never be repaid as the award period passes. It also cheapens every ribbon handed out on here. To Rikki I say good riddance. Fotofight is better for him and I hope he stays there. If I find the need to see an image that I need to wonder about cheating, I'll just look him up there. We have no use for cheaters here...period.
03/08/2007 05:23:20 PM · #95
The fact that he was/is a excellent photographer made it even sader that he found he had to cheat/manipulate/break the rules....gave us all the big V .... shafted us....and for what? Nothing! A virtual award! Now that is sad, and now its all 'forgive and forget'. Well I have no respect for him or anyone else who cheats and no I dont miss him or his like.

The thought of Rikki returning makes my head hurt. Even though I only met him once, Rikki is like family to me. I think most people would welcome Rikki back. Maybe Rose should be allowed back as well and I definitely would pay extra to have a certain 6 year old Hungarian boy return to the forums. This place lately lacks the drama that made it interesting. Sure we have the occasional combustible rant or a hoohoo incident here & there, but it's not like it was back in the day.

But I digress. Regarding Rikki's return, I think my position is obvious. ...or ambiguous. ...or preposterous. Maybe I'm just ambivalent. ...or on Ambien.

The sooner you face up to being an amphibian the better it will be for all concerned.
