is this too sensitive a topic, or is this a great topic to photograph? Voice out your opinion!

EDIT: What about "final destination" with the note "where the journey ends" ? This doesn't necessarily mean death, it could be anything. it could be somebody's dream.

I don't think it's too sensitive. Might be a good challenge and you'd probably see seem creative shots. I like it.

A bit morbid and not a good idea IMHO

but elaborate on how people would take photos on "death"?

it could be too touchy for some and only way it could really work is if it was limited in it defination. As I recall the forum was buzzing with complaints about dead animals in one challenge not to long ago...maybe the subject could be a little more directed and say cemetaries. Although that sounds like a great challenge in October closer to Halloween.

Maybe you could explain what value -- creative or otherwise -- you think such a challenge would bring. Just putting out the subject "death" doesn't mean much. After all, we could just take portraits again, or pets, because every one of the subjects is in the process of dying.

"FINAL DESTINATION"
Take a photo of the destination, where the journey ends

That'll bring a lot of tomb stone shots I guess ...

I would have gone to a morgue or a slaughterhouse. And all the Gothic possibilities. Ooooh! Me likes, me likes.

Where do I sign?

I think death is a great subject idea. I mean, come on, if you can't think of interesting and creative things to do with that subject...Look at the arts in general, literature, movies, art. I think it would be great to have a go at it with photography. Some of the comments in this thread bewildered me. Dead people and tombstones is all you can think of. The idea of death can be physical, metal, emotive, peaceful, sad, philosophical, religious, grim...

you do not demonstrate your vaunted creativity with such comments/questions :)

What a truly bizarre and unneccessarily provocative comment. I'm surprised at you, mag. You must be having a bad day or something. I won't bother to go looking for examples of where YOU have asked for clarification of challenge subjects, but I'm sure we could find some, don't you think?

It may not have value to you individually, but I personally see a lot of creative ideas available for the 'death' concept... especially if you read further into the post and see the 'end of the road' idea...

If you think portraits and pet photos are depections of death, then I wouldn't bother trying to explain how creative this one could be...

so what say you? I'm beginning to like the idea too. I'm just excited to see how everyone inteprets this. lets not shoot gory photos...i might throw up LOL

this COULD be a very creative challenge, but my guess is it WOULDN'T be. We'd have some tasteful and/or creative ideas, and we'd have a whole bunch of roadkill and setups designed to disgust and shock the viewers.

I am BY NO MEANS conservative, nor am I offended by the notion of a little blood, guts or vomit (hell, I've played rugby for 17 years), I just envision a lot of cheesy attempts at suicide mock-ups, car crashes, or dead pets (the perpetual belly-up goldfish).

Make no mistake, if it comes up, I'll participate, and probably have fun doing it, but then we'll need a tutorial on how to get ketchup stains out of clothes and hair.

I love the idea... maybe because I have a nice big picturesque cemetery across from where I work. :)

Bring it on!

thats the part I don't like about it too...knowing someone will either exploit a death or be disgusting and uncreative to show a deer with its guts splattered on the highway...

But I suppose this is the same thing that will happen to ALL challenges, regardless of the topic, isn't it?

Hey, nobody asked for LOGIC Vic.

I'm kidding. you make a valid point; the difference is in a challenge like this, you run the risk of being seriously offensive and/or disgusting. I'm not likely to offend anyone by a picture of a barn that is in bad taste.

Again, I'm not opposed tot he challenge per se, I'm just saying be prepared for the fallout.

I like the idea, because it is a controversial topic.. it would be interesting to see how different cultures see the "death" or the "end of the way".. =) its like a open door to creativity =)

but please, like an open challenge plis.. =) jje.ejejeje

Death imagery is certainly something i want to do for myself at some point - probably more during the introspective winter season. Don't find it a great challenge idea though. There would be 10-20 good creative submissions, another 30-40 decent attempts, and the rest will be more or less irritating bunk. Don't want to see and vote on 200 pics in the latter category. A couple of submissions will be offensive. That's okay. too. Don't mind being offended - will let that person know though.
It's just all the very fake, very cliché submissions that will get to me. Don't particularly want to see pics of nude women who have been murdered and the blood is depicted by chocolate or paint.

For a death challenge i might submit a picture of 3 pork chops in a supermarket cellophane package.
