John: I am not a big fan of IR. But this is perhaps the best shot of the bridge I have yet seen form you. Great work.

John, this is absolutely outstanding. I love it, and normally I am not a big IR fan. The reflections are quite good. The sky works very well in this one. Good day with the clouds to shoot the bridge again. If I were to suggest something, it would be to get rid of the weeds in the track in the foreground. However, their presence confirms that the bridge is unused, so maybe they should stay. |

I agree with Jak. I don't like IR but this is your best bridge shot. Keep them coming!

I am not sure what I think about it, with the color.
Have you tried converting to gray scale?
Have you tried shooting in night-mode, and using a ND filter to get the proper exposure? That should eliminate the color (I think). I wish I could find the article that talked about that.
The image has a lot of impact as it is, but it is so unreal looking, that I am not sure if the impact is from the strength of the photo, or novelty. |

I haven't messed with the ND filter and nightshot mode yet. I have looked at images both ways. I like the full exposure best so far and I have converted these to greyscale and toned them HERE.

John, I too have recently begun experimenting with IR but I haven't gotten the grasp yet of the coloring effect of the sky. I take it you are shooting in full color mode or are you adjusting for white balance? Maybe that's my problem. Could you render any furhter info (i.e camera settings)? |

I do shoot in full color mode and DO NOT use the night shot mode. This requires manual exposure to get it right... This particular shot was 5" at F4.5 or so... The original image comes out fairly red. I run the photoshop autolevel function on it to get what you see here. The only other correction I have done is to hit it with one pass of the sharpen filter....

I have to agree that this is my favorite "Bridge of Sighs" photo. The IR effect, red sky and all, is very alluring.
Since I have been thinking about purchasing a IR filter myself, I have to ask if you have tried shooting in B&W mode while using the filter, rather than converting to greyscale afterwards?
(The second comment is NOT meant to be a suggestion for the "Bridge of Sighs" photo... Merely a question about using the IR filter ' - )

My F707 does not have black and white mode. It has sepia mode and I have not tried that with IR yet... i will do that next time i'm out...

I LOVE the colour in this :). It's gorgeous. Imagine being a pit viper and seeing the world like that all the time!

I really like the monochrome, both the the verticle and the horizontal. Nice work John. I really need to play with that myself.
