Thanks, the settings I used were f7.1, 1/1000 sec shutter and ISO 200.

Maybe a smaller aperture would have helped to give you more from front to back in focus?

The smallest one I have on my p&s is 8.0 Also I had a mildly dirty lens which didn't help.

My apologies for not checking which camera you had!! :o) You could be right about the dirty lens....or maybe just a case of camera shake??

Quite all right! Perhaps camera shake, it was a windy day however I was using a tripod so it is unlikely.

Thanks, I really appreciate it. I'm trying to get a feel for B&W in the digital age.

I think its an art form all of its own!! I find BW so hard to do in digital. I am never quite happy with the tones I get in PS.I need to work on it too I think! You have done a decent job with this image, I really liked the shades and tones on the dancer :o)

I'm really trying to get opinions on this border. I love the photo's color, but wanted to give it some extra bang, zip, wow factor, whatever you call it.

I think I just had a bad day, even when I cleaned my lens later and took some more photos - including my wildlife 3 entry - they still didn't turn out any good. But on Australia Day, 26 Jan, I had an absolute red letter day. Got THE BEST shot I have ever taken.

I've decided commenting is my very own version of therapy!! I get to spend some quality time forgetting the everyday things, whilst saving the $100+ in therapist fees and at the end of it all I get to make other people smile (or shout) :o)

So, anyone want some comments?

Shalrath put up some new ones today and is accepting comments - see here

And cutlassdude70 put up some gorgeous shots from a California road trip - see here

Both sets of pictures give you a nice view of different parts of the world. Thanks again for your comments yesterday, and yes, I have a very bad habit of cutting off heads. I have an outtake I'll post after a challenge closes, just for you. Meanwhile, here's yet another of my senseless decapitation shots:
