Congrats to whiterook for his extraordinary contribution to DPC in 2006 in winning the coveted "BROWN" Ribbon 6 times, including his first four challenges. Adding to his all-star accomplishment of the most Brown Ribbons in a single year, whiterook out did himself by winning the BROWN ribbon for "Best of 2006" with a truly inspired brownie photo, "future hall of famer?". You'll notice on whiterook's homepage on dpc that his 2007 goals include cleaning his basement (subject of at least three brown ribbon winners this past year), and winning more brown ribbons (in his words, "getting more last place finished"). In 2007, he's already scooped up 3 brown piles of last place finishes, on record to easily exceed his 2006 production. Some are now beginning to recognize his signature photo style, including overexposed, slightly out of focus, tilted horizons, white edge crop leftovers, as well as that candid "snapshot" real life ordinary setting of normal subjects often labeled with a title which may or may not relate to the photo. Truly a master of the BROWN in at least productivity, Whiterook still has a ways to go in diving deeper into the "lowest rated" zone of the cellar of DPC where an odd form of anti-glory surrounds such subjects as "My Hand" (Hann), "xxx" (Mephisto), and "Puppy's Nose" (cassber). Still, I've greatly enjoyed the presence of "his majesty of the basement", whome I dub, 'The Brown Ribbon Master 2006', whiterook, and look forward to more of his counter DPC culture photos this year! |

Yes, but he still has yet to crack the bottom 50 (his lowest-scoring image is #68 or thereabouts). He also has not shown the OOB creativeness of some of the true Brown Masterpieces, like "Angry Kitty...":
He is an artist still searching for a lack of vision. |

Hmmm..I don't know what to think about this. He just added me as a favorite. (He's the only one!) :)
I think he must be a genius!

the great ubaldo's "give me a hand" deserves some recognition. Not only was it the lowest score of 2006 but also the third lowest all time.

OMIGOD!!!!
Read Spazmo99's comment on the Angry Kitty! This is the funniest thing I have ever read in my entire life. My stomach hurts, tears are streaming down my face and I can barely type this!!!!!
"This is so AWFUL I puked in my lap. I must be stupid. The only reason you get a 1 is because I can't give out a negative score. I showed it to my cat, she puked too. My kid ran away screaming with his eyes covered. YUCK! I don't dare show this to my wife. You really need to keep this awful stuff to yourself." |

Come on, don't yanko my chain like that. You show us the third lowest of all time and not the first and second? Just added Angry Kitty to faves. |

I especially like his website (link on his profile page).
No-hitters by Jim "Mudcat" Grant? 2003 - Baltimore vs. Tampa Bay???? Let me count the ways that this is wrong:
1.)Mudcat Grant never played for Baltimore
2.)Mudcat Grant retired in 1971
3.)Mudcat Grant never pitched against Tampa Bay
3.)Noone on the Orioles has pitched a no-hitter against Tampa Bay
4.)Noone named James Grant has ever played for the Orioles
5.)On April 5, 2003, the Orioles played the Boston Red Sox
6.)7 of the 9 players in the Orioles line-up didn't play for the Orioles in 2003
7.)3 of the players never played for them at all -- ever
8.)Who the hell are the players in the Tampa Bay line-up?
9.)Mudcat Grant never pitched a no-hitter
This guy cracks me up. I kinda wish I knew him in real life.

You have to admire a man who sets goals, works toward them and achieves what he set out to accomplish. Admirable!

He is a genius every horizon tilts to the left! In almost every pic. I think he does it so that when the voters tilt their head to scratch it, wondering why? It levels it out! LMAO j/k man you rock! :-P |

Here's the link to the Brown Hall of Fame. Only 5 photos have scored under 2 which is remarkable because there are people who don't want to see it happen. Just look at charliebaker's best brown shot. He got hammered by 6 trolls who scored it a 10. It totally robbed him of a sub-2 score. :P

Original title: angry kitty ready for a scratch your eyes (intentional abstract; if you give me a 1 you're stupid)
Jacko has it listed as one of the comments to the image.

Thanks for weighing in on this DPC under-the-surface subject. Though it may seem like a cakewalk to win a brown ribbon, if you've never actually tried, think again. There are quite a number of obstacles to a brown ribbon in this quirky land of DPC:
1) Bottom Feeders: in any given challenge, there are quite a number of folks who (for various reasons) seek the odd prestige of the Brown. Sure, the attention is focused upon Blue, Red and Yellow ribbons. But just look at the views after voting, and you'll see one of the motives why people flirt with the cellar. Brown ribbon winners get many post voting views. I love looking at the brownies, the "burnt cookies" (2nd from the bottom) and the "turds" (third from bottom).
2) Reverse Trolls: just as yanko posted, there are troll voters who will give a really poor photo a 10 just for the fun of it. For anyone who is reaching low to aspire for the brownie, or more importantly for those who seek that hallowed realm below, of the "lowest rated" bottom 20 , even a few of these reverse troll votes kill the flight down.
3) Failing to add enough bad elements into your bad photo: a true brown ribbon winner includes multiple problems, usually at least three or four photographic errors or problems which add up to causing voters to score it a 1 or 2. If you look at the bottom 20 "lowest rated" of all time on DPC, all but one of these have more than 100 "1" votes. To get them, many people to vote your photo a "1" takes an intentional multiple problem approach to the challenge.
4) New DPC rules: the new suggestion in voting of making comments on all photos scored below a "4" vote, have likely caused the overall voting average at the bottom to climb, making it even tougher to attain to the depths of DPC caverns of fame.
For more on this arcane subject, check out a forum post from a few years ago I wrote called "How to Win the Brown".
