Wow - lucky you get to keep any future kids. (referring to Lynnesite's post)

Brad, I'm interested in how you approached them, negotiated rate, etc . Care to speak to that side of your accomplishment?

In fact they now have an unlimited FR rights to them. Great step if you can get some requests or "paid" photo submissions. Great work

Holy cow thats some amazingly wide ended release. I'm not sure I'd want Reuters to publish my images after reading that. As someone else pointed out your lucky they didnt ask for your next born child in it as well. I sure wish a large company like this would expoit photographers talent and time for their own benefit.

Well, I did read their agreement, and looked at it this way:

1) What else was I going to do with them?
2) Local media coverage was like a feeding frenzy.
3) The shots I sent them were all only 700 px at 150k.
4) Small web-friendly images wouldn't print well bigger than a postcard.
5) I got to make a really great shameless self promotion thread about it.

and last but not least, and the best reason:
My Mom was proud of seeing them published.

Oh wait - one more:
I can now say I am an Internationally-Published Photojournalist now.
*laughing*

Now I'm off to get an online college degree I hear so much about in my
emails and maybe even become a Doctor by the end of the week....

Awesome shots Brad! Big Congrats to you!!

Yay for the mom-angle, the best!

And you only sent them wee images, almost as good!

And your promo thread enabled me to bleat about reading the Terms Of Service before submitting--yet again, thanks!

And me, too on the 2nd shot. Simply fantastic. Enter it in the PJ category of the BW Spiders next year, a contender for sure.

The two black & whites were pretty much my favorites and look so much better in regular size:

Adding a couple more:

Some of the biggest earners, rf stock picture-wise, are ones that have been published. The tos said they have non-exclusive rights. That means that Brad can place these on any stock site and earn money off them. I think that it has increased their value to be shown on the website. How many people can say their pictures were displayed by Reuters?
Nice pictures there Brad.

Brad please dont take my comments wrong, they werent meant to put what you did in a bad light. I just feel that they are taking advantage of your awesome photos because I'm sure they are/will profit from your hard work and thats really a shame, since you likely wont get anything in return. Thanks for sharing them they are great photos.

Oh heck no Matt, and appreciate having someone watching out for my best interests.
I agreed about the exploitation that can come of it, but I really doubt this is such world-shattering news that anything would come of it, AND the only have small files. Had a Fireman been sent flying in an explosion, or something horrific like the media really thrives on, then no, I would never give them away.

I got a lot more in return actually, as I had never done a shoot like this, nor even been published like this. It's cool. It's a stepping stone really.

Now to go see if I can find one of my emails to get my medical degree overnight. (or find a great deal on Viagra or somethin..)
lol

Excellent pictures! A couple of them would have made great free study entries!

Well done Brad!

I really like the shots where the fireman are sitting down on the hose to keep the water going onto the fire.

Good call to take it to Reuters!

Cheers,

Great shots, Brad! Congratulations, you're goin to Hollywood, babeeeeey!
Seriously - fantastic shots - they blow those other weekly series away. And good call sending them to Reuters for the reasons and in the way that you stated.
