After much thought and Q&A, I finally decided to move to a WordPress blog instead of using Blogger.

//redneck.setzler.net

I am having several issues that I haven't resolved yet, but I did get the system running fairly easily.

Issue #1: I can't get my sub-domain name (redneck.setzler.net) to override the actual address of the site in the browser's URL bar.

Issue #2: When I post photos to the blog that are centered, my sidebar on the right gets thrown to the bottom of the page. It's not the specific theme I'm using because I tried several different themes...

Any thoughts on those issues would be appreciated :)

It has something to do where you put your base files and how it defaults to that directory. There is a way to get your main interface files in the subdomain and you have to alter a link in a file somewhere to make the files in the subdomain work with the base files in the blog directory you created.
Had kind of the same thing with mine, but forgot how I corrected it. Used the wordpress help files. Should be in there somewhere.

Altough now I get unsure if this is the same issue.... Perhaps better to ignore me. :)

Perhaps this is what you need, although I'm not sure.

That happened to me once when I posted a very long url link in a post on my blog. You only have so much space in the left hand side for posting, if it's too wide your profile sidebar gets bumped to the bottom.

Hi John,

I believe your sidebar is getting pushed to the bottom of the page because the container isn't big enough to hold both the image and the sidebar. You can alter the container size in the style.css option of the Theme Editor.

Try using a smaller image in the center position, and see if that solves the problem. ie. If the image that is causing the problem was 700 pixels wide, try using one that is 500 pixels wide, etc.

Most of the themes I've worked with have had container sizes of about 800 pixels so they'll work in all browsers, so if your sidebar is taking up say 200 or more pixels, your image can't take up more than 600 pixels on the widest side so they'll both fit in the container. (If there is no room for the sidebar to be called, it will push to the bottom, which sounds like what you are describing.) Each theme is different, though, so it will take some code investigation.

Regarding issue #1, from the Wordpress Dashboard/Options/General you'll need to change the Wordpress address to www.redneck.setzler.net to override and the Blog address to the same thing. (I think! Use caution!) This will cause issues with your permalinks and your chmod rewrites, though, and may cause some log-in issues. If I were you, I'd leave it alone if your permalinks are working.

HTH,

Laurie
