Been talking this evening of our favorite toys from our childhood and I remember one me and all my friends had, but can't for the life of me remember what it was called or what company made it. Google can't read my mind, so perhaps the collective intelligence of DPC can do better!
This was late 60s or early 70s. It was a car and came in many models, and it had one center wheel and a T-handled 'zip strip' - it had teeth like a gear and was fed into the car by the wheel - you then pulled the t-handle bit making the wheel spin and then set the car down and it raced away.
help me find out what this was called - please!

My memory is that it was mid 70's. I think they were called SST cars. More on this site, but wasn't able to find any images. |

Damn... those were so cool. I remember getting cuts from those darned zip-strips, but that never stopped us from trying to out-do eachother!
SSP Racers

I think that they were called SSP racers, made by Kenner. |

SSP, not SST as I (and others apparently) remember.
//www.bigredtoybox.com/cgi-bin/toynfo.pl?sspindex has a pic of one.

I left black rubber streaks with those across my mom's hardwood floors. I then had red streaks in a particularly uncomfortable place on my body :)

Found a 1 minute commercial from TV for them, 1972 vintage. Beware, there is a commercial in the beginning of the link.
