Does anyone know of a search engine where you can search for information on something without hitting hundreds of product shopping sites?

I love Google search but it's getting ridiculous the number of product "price" and store hits you get when searching for information ABOUT a device.

So the "implied" answer is no?

Try using something like:

Nikon review -buy

That seems to have cut about 700,000 hits by adding the -buy.

I know what you mean....I'm still trying to find the books on Amazon.com for rcmannjr/banmorn...Well there are some apparently on Robert Mann...but not me...the pinhole photographer in Paris....Oh well...some day.

Thanks--I hadn't thought about using negation to eliminate key selling words.

But I'd still like to see a search site that only does "information" and not "infomercials"!

I thought about using that too, but didn't suggest it because it also eliminates a lot of good links. The above example where the search is for a review can be tricky. When you eliminate "buy" and the reviewer says: "No memorycard is included, you have to buy that seperately."

You could miss that perfectly good review.

Same goes for -shop

Exclude the word cart or maybe shipping?

My search bookmarks automatically append "-amazon -google -search -ebay" to the query. I find my results to be much cleaner that way.

alltheweb.com

Got pushed aside by google and google PR. They've had to do one thing or another to stay alive, I suppose. Maybe less people sign up for them. In any case, I always go there if I'm looking to compose an "advanced search" and I don't feel like helping people take over the world.
