It's certainly one I look forward to every month in spite of all the ads.

It does have alot of ads doesn't it Brad. I guess they have to make some money somehow with all the free subscriptions they give away.

thanks that's what I did before but I guess I chose the wrong type of photographer. this time I chose freelance and it went to the free page instead of the other.

That's exactly what I did. Put my business name in and that I'm the owner/photographer. I just figured they thought I could afford a subscription. I try again.

mine arrived today. Prize for the most annoying inset ad ever goes to that thick cardboard 'postcard company' insert with the gummy glue that ripped the cheap rangefinder paper apart as I tried to remove it.

I'll remember to never use that company for anything.

Well, the company that postcard is an ad for paid for your magazine.

But, yes, I find those ads annoying, but I think of dealing with stuff like that as the "subscription price".

There's a difference though to the annoying loose inset ads, which I just throw away before I start reading and one that is physically attached to the magazine in a way that destroys the magazine when you remove it. You can either rip out the page or not read the page under the ad. Around that point the advertising is going slightly beyond the original purpose.

Yes they pay for the magazine, but that doesn't mean I have to ever want to buy from them because of their obnoxious advertising. There are plenty of other less intrusive and less reprehensible ways to advertise in a magazine, that don't mark your product as one not to purchase under any circumstances :)

As an example, most other forms of advertising wouldn't get me to the point of mentioning them in a forum post on a web site. Other than those incredibly stupid inter-show pop-up ads that filled the bottom third of any non-subscription cable TV show for a while. Particularly the pop-up ads that actually had audio. I solved that one by getting rid of the television.

And pop-up float over ads in web sites.

Any more ? :)

I hear that can be solved by getting rid of the internet.

It at least has some other redeeming features and pop-up blockers work well enough.

After almost a year without TV, the only thing I appear to miss is context for many conversations in the pub.

I was so embarassed when I ripped the pictures up on the page the postcard was stuck to. I'm sorta glad to hear I wasn't the only one. Next time I'll do better!

If you think that postcard thing was bad try picking up a graphic design magazine like HOW. Those tend to have much more of that particularly from paper companies trying to sell you all kinds of paper stocks and those magazines aren't free. RangeFinder is a blessing compared to those.

Look at it this way, at least they don't have perfume ads.
