Hi all

Thanks everyone who liked Octopussy!, I do plan to write a tutorial - though it really wasn't all that difficult, and clearly I was VERY naughty and cloned a limb or two. Oh well. And I have far more views on that pic than on all my other shots combined! Too f***in' funny!

Now to go and work on Sky and Pet PortraitII...

I've got an average, pretty sky shot I could enter, but I admit I'm a little scared with these new 'expert' rules. I've got an old Photoshop elements program, can't do HDR type stuff, etc. Expecting a lot of special effects I can't even come close to competing against (not that I'm really competing in any of these challenge, LOL!)

Remember the Oscar Wilde quote, "Anything worth doing is worth doing badly". I have entered the Sky challenge with a very average sky and used only Advanced processing. But since I don't care about my overall average score, it is just one more bit of practice and experience. If I get a more OOB/original idea before the challenge closes, I'll swap the shots.

My Dirt is tanking after its 6.0 last night, and no comments.

Hey JuliBoc, 5.5 is really good in my book. I have to take a look at some of them. I entered "For Sale" because I didn't have any idea for dirt and it was not good timing for the pet picture. You'll understand why shortly.

I was going to try the sky shot but I don't have enough experience in post processing to attempt that one.

I'm curious to see what they have to say about my "For Sale" shot. One thing is for sure. They won't be able to hit me for over processing!

I read in some thread a while back where you could send your challenges to some DPC memebers for help prior to the challenge start date. Just a thought.

Bad idea - this is colluding challenge behavior.

You have to be very careful about showing your image to dpchallenge participants. Yes, if you clearly state to everyone you show that they should NOT vote on it, you should be okay. But that is not standard operating procedure at Team Suck. I can't speak for the subteams (except my own). You should see if your teammates are okay with such a thing first. Also, there are lots of people who will send their photo to one or two people. That happens all the time, and has nothing to do with teams. So that's an option available to you as well.

Team Suck has no official position on this issue, except that it will follow the rules of the site and always encourages its members to do the same (except of course for cloning extra legs onto cats). But since we do call ourselves "teams" we have to be ubercareful about sharing photos.

Oh, also this goes against our prime directive, which is "learn by failing." Really, it's the best way to learn!

ha... and chosen totally independently...

sorry to hotshot about the pink pussycat - excellent processing... what a shame as it was one of the few photos that really 'illustrated' a Bond movie title when most of the entries were simply movie poster knockoffs.

And some of us have oddly skewed learning curves.

My shot is in for Pet Portrait. My scores are turned off so I won't know how it does until rollover a week from now. I tried to counteract the usual set of comments that I get about my shots being washed out by popping it to my ideal and then dropping the brightness. Will see if that works in a week's time.

As it turned out I had to choose from about 8 different possibilities. I went for one that probably won't appeal to the purists, but is in line with the ideals of Team Suck. Enter what you like.

The one thing that annoys me is the title. I've seen when you put apostrophes in the voting title thing escapes them with \ characters, so I've avoided using them, but it's meant I've had to abandon the title I wanted. Meh.

First is larger (better); thumb is larger than medium.

Okay, I'm not bad at changing backgrounds, cutting/pasting, that sort of thing. But for a sky photo to be spectacular in this challenge, I imagine I'd need to either a) learn how to control my bulb function and shoot a night sky or b) learn HDR. Not likely to happen anytime soon.

By the way, juliboc your score in dirt is nothing to sneeze at. I'm creeping up toward the 5.0 mark, but my photo is remarkably unspectacular, so it may end up in that *dreaded* 4 range.

I just switched my scores back so I could see them. I was just curious where I was at on My LifeII score.

Not a darn thing wrong with 18 comments and a fav!! I'd be delighted!

Bob, you're doing amazingly well in Life II. I'm impressed by the score, but REALLY impressed by the Fav and the 18 comments. Way to go!

My Life II is doing better than I expected. It's not up to my standards for this type of shot, but it's also not something that can be produced on demand. So I entered it anyway with the expectation of a sucky score.

I'll take a fave and a mid-5 score over no fave and a high-5 score. Wanna trade?
