I found a harsh environment and got a comment that said it looked like a studio shot. I should have had one of those titles that says 'this is a picture of - in which - which is a harsh sort of environment because...'

Or not.

Just been voting on Patterns and saw the shot that has drawn such visceral reactions. I didn't lose my lunch, but certainly can empathize with other members of the thread, for obvious reasons.

and AA Battery is doing more like most of my pics do, starting in mid-4s and clambering up or down...odd though, the disproportionate number of views to votes!!!!

Wow, I have no idea how to do the stuff you mentioned on here. I think I'd better order a Photoshop for Dummies book to go along with my new version. What's a high pass layer?

Bear_Music says 1/125 sec f/8. Set the ISO accordingly. (That's manual pre-set fot street candids btw, when you don't know what's coming and when and won't have the time to set up for it).

argh! i'm trying street shooting again and cant get a clean shot. everything is coming out blurry. i had my camera set to aperture priority with the ISO at 100 and F4.5. everything came out blurry though.

i'll try again tomorrow on lunch...

it'll be ealier in the day this time and there'll be better light.

ok, people, there comes a time in the life of all... um... all things must pass... for one brief shining...

what I'm trying to say... hold yourself together, man! .... what I'm trying to say is... I think it's time....

to lock this unmanageably long thread and start a new one.

there, I've said it.

Catherine...I have Paintshop Pro 9 but my son keeps telling me I should get Photoshop 7. He said you can find it on-line at a pretty reasonable price. Just thought I would mention that. BTW, PaintShop Pro has curves...that's how I get myself in trouble.

It stands for Unsharp Mask in photoshop. It sharpens images, and is especially noticeable after resizing.

edit--too slow!

UnSharpMask...It's used for sharpening a photo.

By the way, is it just me, or are there a lot of REALLY good photos in occupation? I gave a lot of high scores.

If any of you are using CS2 try Smart Sharpen. It doesn't do as much haloing as USM. You will still see some increased halos, but not as bad as USM, and I find I am using it more and more. In some situations, I still use USM, but not often.
