I hate math, really. In fact, the last math class I took was Geometry in the 9th grade. However, I have always found math to be both fascinating and mysterious, as it is capable of unlocking the mysteries of the cosmos. Geometry is especially relevant in terms of photography, and there is one photographer (at least!) who knows how to take geometry, whether from a building, a flower, or any other object, and capture it coming to life with light through photography. I'm speaking, of course, about Gordon!
Gordon's profile:

If geometry could dance, she'd be Gordon's date at the prom. Gordon's images remind us that the world is fundamentally sculpted by shape and form. As shape and form compose the basic view of the world, Gordon does not let us forget that these forms and shapes are tangible objects, which can often stir our emotions and/or our imaginations, like in this photo of his:

Sculpture is nothing without light, however, and Gordon knows how to use light to its best advantage. He must wait around for hours until the light is "just right."

I have learned much from his sense of point of view, as well. Eye level is only one choice for him. He is not afraid to get on his knees and shoot up, or stand up high and shoot down. And all of this to make sure he captures the inherent drama of the sculpted form. Look at how he uses the sculpted lines of the stems to hone our eye on the insect in this shot:

He even uses motion to help him bring sculpted forms to light, as in this shot (my personal favorite of his):

And of course, we all know him to be extremely knowledgeable about the technical aspects of photography. This is obvious in both his general skill in the art form as well as in his willingness to share his expertise with others.
Explore his very wide range of images and learn from him!

*bump* because I don't want David to think nobody reads or appreciates these threads : )
Gordon is one of those photographers whose profile page, as good as it is, doesn't do him justice. You really have to look through his pbase galleries to get a better feel for his work.

Gordon is my favourite photographer on this site. I think he has a really unusual perspective, he has an eye for the unique that few can match and I think his work has often not got the recognition, in terms of DPC scores, that I personally think it merits.
Enough said because he is a Scotsman and I don't want all this praise from an England girl to go to his head!

I'm flattered, though I think you've nailed the techy geek persona I've been trying to supress through my photography. Back to the drawing board...
I think I've only really been happy with 2 or 3 of my dpc entries - I seem to do more satisfactory work on non-challenge themes... |

Be intersted to know which are the ones you're happy with Gordon: would give a different perspective.

I have one photographer in my favorites and it happens to be Gordon. There are a few others who are a picture or 2 away from achieving that status. I feel there are a few picture's Gordon's done though that are pretty underrated. Keep up the good work Gordon.
This is a good theme for threads Dave. If you keep going, I expect to see my name up here in about another 4,000 weeks or so.
Bob
Edited after I figured out how many years 4,000 weeks is. That would make me 109 years old... Maybe you could do 2 a week dsidwell?!
