not suck too bad?!

but you're on team suck!

i hope my next pic sucks so bad that i start getting phone calls about it.

But there are levels of suckiness. Not to suck "too bad" is still a sucky picture. It's just not the ultimate. I'm sure it will be a 5 or less.

Hello, fellow Suckees!
I just entered light on white. And boy, does it suck! I'm going to do our team proud. I've never tried this type of photo before (and it shows) but I'm hoping to get some constructive criticism and hopefully learn more for next time. If I get a 5.0 I'll be really, really lucky.

I'm pretty sure that I'm entering something for light on white and I'm pretty sure it will suck.

I'm in Light on White and wasn't even planning to be - don't know if that's good or bad, but probably bad. I'm also in diagonal and that one was kinda planned, so it should be worse. :-) Going to spend my day today househunting. Must find a place to live!! Hotel is adequate and the staff is friendly and they speak English, but I miss my stuff - particularly my big widescreen monitor thingie...

Now, now, Don. Let's remember that you predicted a 6+ in postcards and got it! Take at least an hour to celebrate that. :)

For the first time since joining, I'm going to bed basking in my score. Given how well perspective is going, I might not even look at this score until Wed.
11/27/2006 02:09:41 AM · #1208
Hmm. My light on white is currently at 4.2. So on course for a personal worst score ever. Fantastic. Maybe next time I just wont bother putting any effort into the shot and I'll get 6.

Edit - My score went down accompanied by a positive comment. Go figure.

Ohhh... once again my entry is really sucking, and I like it. Still trying to figure out if I'm a bad judge or a bad photographer. Of course there is a third possibility ... a STUPID public. Ya, that's the ticket.

p.s. No comments either. I guess that pop-up message isn't going to have any effect after all. With 33 votes and an average below 4, there should be about 20 comments by now.

Maybe I should not try! I don't mean that in a discouraged way, what I mean is I spent time setting up, taking the shot, another hour editing. Blah, blah, blah. For a sub 4 shot. My other entry is still above 5. No time, no energy, no real thought, no editing. Go figure. It's the one's I don't think about that do OK (or sometimes even well).
11/27/2006 07:43:44 AM · #1213
You guys should feel great that you entered the Light on White. I felt anything I would do with this would suck so bad so I didn't even try. I have a probable 4 entry in diagonal.

James Bond will be another member challenge pass for me.
11/27/2006 08:13:09 AM · #1214
I really do get the feeling that I shouldn't have bothered with light on white though. It's dragging in loads of "4" votes (or lower) with no explanations at all. The only comment so far is one from someone who says it's a great photo. I actually agree, but it's still sucking.

Really unsure now whether to bother entering the conceptually similar photo I had for diagonal.

Good morning fellow Suckees! Suckage I predicted, suckage coming to fruition. Actually, my Light on White is slightly better than I'd expected, and that is not saying much.

I looked at the past light on white challenges, and scores were overall low. This may follow the same trend, as it is a difficult challenge.

By the way, great postcards overall from Team Suck! I wondered if the WWII memorial postcard was yours, Levy, as you're from DC. In fact, I'd go so far as to say...none of the postcards truly suck :-)
11/27/2006 09:27:15 AM · #1217
I should have known not to enter such a vague challenge. Doubtless people are voting my photo down because they are thinking it's either

a) not a white background
or
b) not "light".

Of course, they're not leaving any comments to say either way, so who knows. It's just wild speculation.

4.3333

Sigh.

Mine was a rooky mistake. With wider DOF I think it could have scored a lot higher. As it was, it didn't actually make 5, or my front page.

I ended up not entering light on white as my pic was sooo boring. However I did enter Famous Last Words so hopefully voters will appreciate my sick sense of humour...

must go check out new challenges now!
11/27/2006 10:18:25 AM · #1220
Glad I didn't enter L.O.W., my entry would've definitely got 3.5s. Lots of interesting pics!

The James Bond challenge sounds like a blast - now which movie had the bad guy with the fluffy cat?

I left you a comment, David. I think you could get a much better result with another crack at processing.

I thought all the Team Suck postcards were pretty much anti-suck. What's up with you guys? Those were some really great postcards. I'm thinkin' you all might have to sit out a week or something...

I've got a lovely mediocre score going in Light on White - 5.4. Edit - 5.3 after this last update Expecting slightly less than that in Diagonal, but I'll take it. Perspective has been steadily falling today and I don't have very many comments (4) but it's still above 6. Totally befuddling.

Pretty sure I won't be in "Bond" unless something falls in my lap. And even then I wouldn't know it. Heh.

I scored the postcard challenge high. I really enjoyed it. I was happy with my score, but got a little tired of comments about my font. It's a courier font. It is gritty, you know, like Gotham/NYC gritty, like downtown gritty, like hardboiled journalist gritty, like typewriters and booze and filthy apartments. (So I was extremely gratified by Melethia's comment. Thank you!)

I liked mist's fuzzy little postcard. I gave it a 7. I think it's just the right kind of fuzzy to look like a postcard, probably from the 70s.

My light-on-white is safely out of the box and under 5, though I got a very nice comment from uber-OOBer klstover. It sounded like it may have been a little too far out of the box even for her, though! haha

hey guys, been absent for a while, sorry about that OOFers. will try and enter a challenge or two this week, though. have been really busy.

I realized I just complained about comments. Sorry about that! Don't stop commenting. I like comments. You have every right not to like Courier. You could even call it a New York City cliche.
