Hmmm... so I was thinking we had the cliche's challenge a while back. How about doing a NO cliches challenge... one where it stipulates specifically, do not photograph kids, flowers, pets, water droplets, sunsets, cityscapes etc. Do something as ORIGINAL as possible... use your brain for this one, really make the voters think. Or something like that... I think it would be cool to have a fairly wide open challenge with those stipulations... it would definitely allow for more range of photos, and would make the voting more interesting. What does everyone else think? Ideas... comments etc?

I like this idea.

Another that might get people thinking more is 'Abstract'.

I thought this is what we were doing each time... :-)

Nah, that would make things too easy. Leave it to the voters to decide so that you don't get everybody picking the 'most cliched thing not on the list'.

So what you are asking for is an open challenge, closed to those things like, flowers, kids, pets, rain drops, just drops, and so on.

Another slant on this would be to enter something that you never took a picture of before. Like the anti-flower people would have to take a picture of a flower, Etc.

The sad thing about it is we will be taking a picture of nothing because every thing is a cliche to the voters. hehehehe...

I really like the Opposites idea and the Infinite idea. (Not that I don't like the other ones too, just that these two stood out as great ideas to me.)

Abstracts are purely non-objective or non representational, meaning it makes no reference to the exterior world

This could be a very interesting challenge....

i like that idea, although what is cliche and what is not is a bit of a difficulty for many voters... when i submitted a cliche photo for the cliche challenge, some people didnt see that a landscape was cliche... the opposite could happen.

hehehe. I could see it now. I would come up with something I thought was totally original, and there would be fourteeneleven shots similar to it. I agree that if you want a non-cliche challenge, you better be ready to list the multitude of subjects that people here consider cliche!

if you are going to say no cliches don't forget all the studio and macro shots...uummmm will there be anything left?

I'm not saying things that have just been done once or twice I'm talking about those things that show up repeatedly in almost every single challenge....

I do like the idea of an abstract challenge--I've never gone there, except by accident! But I have to disagree that the things RiderGal lists are cliches in and of themselves. They have been treated as artistic subjects for hundreds, if not thousands of years. They only get old or "cliche" if their treatment is cliche. By the same token, an "abstract" can be "cliche" if it is done in a way that is merely an imitation of how previous abstracts have been done.

By the way, I feel that there are several really nice abstracts in the current secondary color challenge.

I like the something never took before idea, or something you would NEVER take a picture of (even though this could spurn shots down blouses and pants and up skirts-COUNT ME IN!!...kidding!)
