Has anybody ever participated in an online course, or homestudy course via an online service? I've been looking at a few of them online, but was just curious for some feedback. This is one that I have looked at:
Professional Career Development Institute
There are quite a few available though... any input? :)

New York Institute of Photography
Not that I am an expert, but I got the course info from NIP by mail, and it seems to be a very comprehensive course. Seems to be one of the references for remote learning in the field. I plan to do this at some point when I have the time... |

Alansfreed: I do agree that there is a LOT to be learned from this site... It's a great site where there is always somebody available to help you out when needed. I'm just looking to expand my horizons more?
Chakkobbo: Thank you very much for that link... it's one that I haven't seen before :) There are so many out there, as well as mini-courses (betterphoto.com) that it's hard to see what I could actually benefit from, and what is worth my $$$ :) I could probably benefit from the majority of classes out there though... :) How much is NYIP? I haven't been able to find tuition prices. I do have a catalog on the way to my house though!

One comment on the New York Insitiute of Photography : I have no
idea of the quality of their courses, but I did sign up for their
info. If you don't sign up/ pay for the courses within a few months,
they send you the option to sign up at a huge discount (over 50% was
the last offer I saw)
Doesn't seem very 'legit' approach to me.
There are courses at :
DpCorner
That you can watch the previous/ current sessions/ feedback to get
an idea of the quality. Again I have no experience on how good they are.
I'd suggest if you have access, considering a local night school/
university evening class - you'll be able to get much more feedback/
discussion/ interaction both with your instructor and other students.
I'd think that would be more rewarding, creatively and financially.
But if you are interested in the NYIP - remember to wait until the
discounted offers come in! (I couldn't sign up as I don't have a VCR)

That's one thing that I did notice... The only VCR I have eates tapes like no tomorrow :) The only other playback devices that I own are DVD players... :) I'll be sure to check out DPCorner... Thanks for your feedback.

I have been receiving the NYIP brochures as well. I am thinking of doing it. The cost is approx. $1000., but there are large discounts if you pay all at once...about $300 off. You can take as long as you want to complete the course(as little as 6 months).
I did speak to two people that have done the course and liked it...but didn't go into detail.
If anyone knows of some online ones I am also very interested.

I think I've had it offered to me at about $400 - though they seem to
have given up recently. I certainly got 2 additional lower offers after
the initial $1000, or $700 all at once deal.

Another option in addition to schooling, may be some local camera clubs. You get the advantage of interacting with people in your local area on a regular basis and, depending on the club, you may have a lot of scheduled activities going on to challenge you. The local club here (which I'm going to try visiting tomorrow night) meets weekly and seems to be pretty active.

Local clubs is definately good. I think a school can help you improve technique, then you can use friends, clubs or other courses to get feedback about your work. Of course, dpchallenge is an ideal forum for feedback (...and I have submitted every week since I started for that matter)!
I'm taking a course now where we spend 2-3 hours doing critique of each other's work, and it's really great, especially when you see people react "in person" to your work. |

So today I got another letter in the mail from the NYIP, course
cost is $970, but they were offering it for $650 as I haven't signed
up quickly enough.
I still find it dubious that they offer discounts if you don't sign
up quickly enough. |
