I got a couple of comments on my photo Buffalo I should have used a polarizer. I have heard of polarized sunglasses, but not for your camera. What is it and what does it do?

Check out the "Understanding Polarization" link on the tutorials page.

There's a tutorial on polarizers in the DP tutorials section:
//www.colorado.edu/physics/2000/polarization/

Polarizers cut glare and/or relections on windows, water, etc. They are sometimes used to deepen the blue of the sky but only work in certain orientations to the sun. If you want a really neat trick try looking at sheet plastic in the sun through a polarizer while rotating the polarizer.

Oops, looks like a couple of us were responding at the same time so both links are the same one.
