I found this site right after getting my first camera. I figured it would be a great place to learn. Just by reading the forums, and voting the images, I have gained so much. Sorry if this tread bores somebody, but I was amazed when I sorted these images by date and compared them. Anybody else feel the same way?
First 5 entries:
First entry. - Lucky Shot
Second Entry. - Found out this sort of humor doesn't score well.
Third Entry. - Not sharp enough and color not good enough to really score well.
Fourth Entry. - Did not do well, lowest score to date. Learned to do better in post.
Fifth Entry. - Ouch. This one stinks.
Last Five Entries:
I can say that this is the best money I have ever spent on a membership to anything. My photos have improved in composition, color, sharpness and editing. I am geared for the next 6 months.

Sure has Boomie. Keep it up.
Though I can't show Challenge entries (there were only 2), I can honestly say mine have too. Though, my editing skills could use some tuning.

I think truley voting each image really changes your mindset when you go to shoot. I know that before I snap the shutter now I am thinking of the placement of things, and looking at it with a very critical eye. I ask myself what I like and dislike about the image I am grabing. |

Your portfolio is quite a testimonial to this site, boomtap!
I'm coming up on 2 years at the end of this month and looking back, I can honestly say I have lost a lot of weight - mostly in the wallet though. :)
I have not seen anyone who participates in the challenges and the foums not improve quickly. Looking through your images over a timeline is a much better indicator of improvement than challenge scores - those are consistently erratic for lots of reasons and I hate seeing people lose heart over them.

Its great to look back into your own portfolio and critique yourself isn't it. I guess everyone looks back and think - how could I have ever believed that would be fit for publication ;-) I know I have some howlers in there !!
DPC is as you say a fantastic environment. Sticking with the programme and continuing to enter keeps reminding me that I have to strive for perfection with every shot. There is no opportunity to relax the standards, someone will always tell you when you do relax.
I've been active here for a couple of years now and I'm still learning a lot from the community. I've mellowed, and no longer need to enter every challenge, but I still get a kick out of pressing the update button.
I looked over your portfolio, and you have made significant progress. Keep with it, challenges and forums are wonderful learning aids. As ART points out its not the scores that count, its the longer term improvement you will (and have) experienced.
Well done, and my congrats.
