umm, excuse me?!?!! This dude posted a full frontal nude on his blog in the first 30day that I REALLY DID NOT WANT TO SEE, and now this? The hipocrisy here is astounding. |
First thing I thought as well, Steve. He also posted humorous and irreverent sp's as well. I don't get it.

Yeah, I was going to say something like that when I posted my thumb but didn't. That's exactly what I feel, this isn't the easiest thing to do, both from a social perspective, but also it's tough work to stick to... even if it is just day three. :) Personally I'm having a great time, and yes, I'm learning quite a bit, for example from Cindi's lighting techniques. |

Okay... Judy ( jutilda) talked me into attempting this as well... I'm starting a little late, but I'm having fun with it. There are some great SP shots out there!

Gone is the respectful critiquing and hard work that the people who were doing it gave it each and every day. What I see now is just.. well.. what we've seen on this site for just a little bit too long now.
There are a few of you that I'm keeping track of, and will continue to do so, as I do see an effort and a willingness to make this a real challenge for yourself and to learn and improve (and we're always needing that, no matter who we are), but this thread has degenerated into something I can't even follow.. let alone constantly trying to weed out the serious efforts from the gratuitous throw-aways.
It's amazing to see the change that half a year has made here... Sad, for the most part.

nah its not hypocracy... what it is is pointign out the innapropriate comments... and the strip club attitude that has pervaded the forums...and this challenge... when i ran the first challenge... it was done in blog.. and the comments were respectful not strip clubbish...
I cant say i blame him for pulling out with a few of the comments i see here in this thread.

I donnna think I'm gonna make it tonight guys, I need to learn to shoot in the morning when I have to work at night. I may have to run an errand (yes, at 11:30pm) tonight. :(
Guess I'll have to play ketchup. Sorry if I haven't been commenting on many others photo's, I shouldn't even be posting here right now. (There's eeeys everywhere man!)

I'm in complete agreement.
A. The social strength needed to do 30 days of self portraits, whether serious, funny, nude, clothed, artistic, snapshot, heavily processed, or straight out of the camera is huge. I, for one, hate being in front of the camera.
B. Not everything done has to be a piece of art to have value.
C. If you can't have fun doing something, why do it at all??
I think everyone doing this "challenge" are great people who help others whenever they can.
The following people have been VERY influential to me in my short time here at DPC: jaded_youth, Elvis_L, Art Roflmao, thegrandwazoo, and can't forget JamesKW. The rest of you do have a part in this, but these people have helped me the most so far.

I need to go read Cindi's lighting thread. I atually did go look at shop lights at Home Depot tonight... :-)
And let's not do the "personal attack" thing in any form, 'k? To each their own. |

With respect. There is room for everyone to express themselves the way they want. Seems to me you guys just don't like one person. Whats up with that? Are we artist's and allow to express our craft the way we want our are to just listen to you and do what you think is right?
I did the first one my way and loved it and I am going to do the same with this one. I am glad all that are participating are doing it their way I think that's why it is called a Self Portrait challenge not a what Di and Artyste think an SP should be challenge?
Thanks for all who continue to participate. Again this is supposed to be creative and fun at least it has been for me. I hope everyone continues doing what you do.
This is just one mans opinion. |

Let's just press on with the challenge and continue to have fun. If we get off subject and start adding insult to injury...then we may as well quit. If someone does not want to participate for whatever reason...that is their choice to make. PARTY ON! |

Day 2
Part of my work environment. You'll see others during the next month.
I feel like the old Mother Swan who's had her day and is reverting back to the ugly duckling. You are all very attractive and very fit looking. You could give a woman a complex, but I won't let you. I doubt you'll be seeing much skin from me. ;-) (Unless I can find a good angle.)

Okay, I missed the bandwagon, so I thought I'd post something about why this challenge is fun AND educational (a la Crystal). I've done 3 shots so far:
Day 1: I had to figure out how to get a solid background behind me down in our basement, where clutter is the norm. I also learned that you gotta be careful how closely you hold up the posterboard to avoid shadows. I wasn't entirely successful.
I also learned how to use my brand spankin' new tripod - never had one before, and all the adjustments took a litle fiddling.
Day 2: I'd never done a triptych before. The idea for the panels came pretty easily, as I really was planning to shave soon anyway. But I had to think about which side of my face to shoot before and after shaving. Then, in processing, I learned how hard it is to get all three heads the same size; didn't quite perfect that, either. I knew a fair amount about basic stuff like layers and moving objects around, but it was fun and educational to try to adjust the colors to match.
Day 3: The idea popped into my head, and it worked! I was amazed at how my eyes looked and the detail in my hair after I darkened it using curves.
And through it all, I've had fun looking at everyone else's shots. Amazing group, and wonderful creativity in only 3 days. I'm truly excited to see what happens in the next 27 days (26 for some in Australia).
So keep it up, folks - comments and all, forum and on the photos themselves. This is reminding me it's not all about shooting for challenges!
Now it's 11:59, so good luck on the free study scores! |
