You know those little icons (Male/Female) that appear next to our names in our forum posts and in our comments in challenges? It appears that now there are 4 types--male, female, site council (with the slick sunglasses on), and administrator (some kind of pale, gross yellow ones). I think there ought to be about 50 of those and let each user choose the little icon to represent them in the forums and on their comments. Any opinions?

The point in the icons is to show the status of the members posting. I made these for the new site, and don't really fancy thinking up 50 more to be honest.

However, if you look at my profile page, you can see I have made some for my friends, and I've said people can request them for use in their forum signatures.

Hey Ben... How about a tutorial on how you make them? :)

I just draw them lol. Nothing tutorial-worthy.

I used to have to make icons every now and again and it's not an easy or terribly fun thing to do. Making 50 of them would be a lot of work. I believe there's a shareware proggie out there called iconedit.exe that will allow you to make .ico files to your heart's content. It's not hard technically...just a 16x16 (in this case anyways) pixel matrix. Artistically, well that's a different story entirely!

Here's a link to grab iconedit if you want it...

So, what if we could submit our own icons, 16x16, in the .ico format. Would the site be able to put them up in our forum posts, etc? Or can it only be in our signature at the bottom of our posts, as in Ben's post?

And if only in our signature, how do we put in an icon or other small graphics file into our forum signature?

Just the same way you put it into a forums post... These tags:

You can edit your signature on your profile page, from there
you can embed graphics using the [im g] [/im g] tags around the
full URL for the graphic (without the spaces!)

This requires you to have some web server somewhere that you've uploaded
the graphics to and can access them from.

Also, please try to limit the size of these files - it slows the site down for anyone on a modem, sometimes intolerably.

I am just testing to see if my little icons work. They are just 2kb so shouldn't make it run to slow.

I got it to work but how do we get it to be clickable?

I am going to try something different. I didn't like the bright pink. What do you all think? I didn't like that color either so lets see if I can edit it and have it change.

Enter the image reference into the text field when making a link.

Use the site's codes, like this:
[img*]//www.jaysquare.com/icon.gif[/img*] except remove the stars from the link tags.
