considering there are only 2 types of elephants, the odds that they are the most vonerable elephants to Herpes is only 1/2.

Pygmy Elephants at Wikipedia.

The desert gopher tortoises inhabiting Death Valley are active for only two weeks of the year. The rest of the year they spend asleep underground.

What I want to know is why you *wouldn't* pee in the shower.

The Madagascar Tree Cow, thought to be extinct, is actually only hibernating in the upper regions of the rare but beautiful African Redwood Forest. The dark leafy foliage makes excellent hiding for the cows. And if you get really lucky you may spot the Brazilian tree Octopus hiding as well. They were brought to Africa by Magellan during his third journey and have developed a natural, if not odd, symbiotic relationship with the tree cow.
Catherine the Great, of Russia, was reported to have owned three of these cows, but no one could ever determine why she bought them and why they suddenly disappeared shortly after her untimely death in an equestrian accident.

Oddly enough, both the cows and the octopi love peanut butter

Nonsense, I've never lived in Antarctica. It is the same length as my under-arm from elbow to wrist though, and it scares barnacles to death!

Actually it is true. Unfortunately however, they also have the greatest number of incidents of appendages breaking off in the cold.

I watched a program on Japanese TV last night, a regular Sunday night nature show. This time it was about Death Valley, and that's what they said. The main focus on the program was the Salt Creek Puff Fish, and also their puff fish cousins in the Devil's Hole water cave. (That would be a cool place to go scuba diving!)

p.s. On second thoughts, maybe they don't sleep the whole time underground... but, hey, cicadas stay underground for seven years before emerging.

The spade-foot toad can remain under ground/hybernating for years in the southwestern desert, if there are no rains that will unstick it from the dried mud. Then when it rains, they come out of the mud, they find a mate and breed, really fast. Then go back under the mud for as long as the next rain happens, or their tadpols become adult in a short time and go under the mud before the mud dried up. So, time has nothing to do with it when an animals heart only beats one every hour or so. Van

I actually saw this on a desk calander once...

When Coca-Cola began to be sold in China, they used characters that would sound like "Coca-Cola" when spoken. Unfortunately, what they turned out to mean was "Bite the wax tadpole".

nice...coca-cola got its name because it was originally made with cocaine.
