What, the 'get a life' comment, or the 'I got pictures' comments ?

I think I might agree with some of the things said earlier.

SOME OF US NEED TO GET A LIFE!!

Entertaining as heck though. Thanks for the laffs!

actually it's good that you posted this because i've been meaning to post something about this for some time, just never got around to it.

I think it would be most helpful if the challenge topic blurb addressed some of these issues. It's not like there's not enough space :).

Specifically, you could say something like 'Remember when voting to admit less literal or more metaphorical interpretations of the challenge topic.' Conversely, you could say 'this challenge should definitely use a real pencil as the main subject.'

I think that would go a long way towards diminishing the uncertainty debates that occur every week as people try to decipher what sometimes might seem like the "Sphinx's Riddle" to many. Fleshing out what is intended would really help people not be so anxious that they were on or off topic.

Just a thought .. ;)

Maybe if we had a "Physical Requirements" addition to all challenges, so you'd know when we're really asking for a specific something to be used. For example, "Your photograph MUST contain a pencil." or "You must use an inclined angle in your shot."

But then, of course, this could take some of the variety out of the challenges and send smartasses worldwide on strike! ;)

i dont think it would. i think it would add to the variety for the admins to actively encourage non literal interps in the challenge descriptions.

currently the tone is that people are afraid to go too far out there because voters are so strict.

this might help with that :)

i dunno ... i guess i fall into the group of the 'strict' voter. i'm just thinking, if we make the topic too open, what's the point? i could go and post on any website that let's me post photos. in fact, i'm starting to enjoy the stricter challenges more ... pencil, fruit&veg, neg. space. on the other hand, i'm not sure whether i'll submit to 'my corner of the world', because i feel it's so open, it's just another excuse to submit a good photo, because i'll be able to bend most things to fit into the challenge.

forgot to mention the other reason i like the strict interpretatios ... pencil (the most narrowly focused challenge) had by far the most creative and well executed shots of any challenge so far (in my opinion).

Bill -

It was regular ole' whole milk. I had to buy it specifically for the challenge, though, as I don't really drink milk and my girlfriend only drinks skim milk. I think I spent more on that shot than any other shot, with the strawberries and milk.

Well as the person who suggested the current challenge, I was hoping it
would be a way to explore the diversity represented within the dpchallenge
community, to highlight the very different backgrounds and experiences
we have and the unique places we live. I thought it might increase
understanding and go some way towards creating world peace.

But if you just need an excuse to take a good photo, I guess there
isn't a whole lot wrong with that either.

nope, there's never anything wrong with an excuse to take a good photo. :)

btw, my brother is in town visiting from europe, so we'll do some touristy things and i just *know* i won't be able to keep that challenge out of my mind, even if it isn't my favorite topic! ;)

so, gr8, does that mean that you nailed drew's shot because it was non-literal? :):):) just askin' out of sheer curiosity, no other motive , , and you dont have to answer if you don't feel comfortable

... Either way, *that's* the kind of thing it would be nice to open people's minds to (not the PANTIES PER SE, gulp, just 'clever' takes on the challenge concept).

it's ironic that the admin who writes the challenge description is remarking on that phenomenon, because he has the power to affect it ; ) .

it would be fun to at least try a more detailed description. and also note that i said it could go either way - the description could be used to specify 'particular care should be taken to make sure X is the subject of the picture."

:D

interesting twist on things. theres' a little light reflection on the arm and the underpants, but other than that, good composition ond coloring. -- gr8photos (5)

i guess i should learn to type though. and before i just went back and checked, i would've guessed that i did give that one a lower score. i must've been in a good mood. :)

LOL ... teaches me right to take things so literal. out of my 7 comments so far, 3 mention that i have a lot / too much negative space in my shot! just thought i throw that one in the mix for everyone's entertainment. :)
