Prints for discounts - no problems if my pics are up to it, by then they should be.
Sleeping in a sleeping bag is no problem as I go camping in the UK anyway.

I am not trying to troll this great thread in any way but I want to point out that this was tried last summer by the oldest DPC user here JonR last summer and there where a lot of people that joined inn.

At that time over 20 people where on a mailing list and everyone where going to the country, and with Jón preparing a great trip over the Icelandic highlands more and more people bailed out becouse of time and money problems.

I recomend for you guys to plan this very well and get confirmed bookings before you go ahead and try to lend cars and so on becouse this will be one hell of a job to pull off.

Iceland is not as expensive as it was last summer but it is still pretty expensive for many people.

But now I think I have warned enough and I hope this will be a great get together.

You can probably PM JonR if you need some experience on what went wrong and what went right the last time over.

Yep I totally agree, maybe you can ask some deposit paid in advance. If you plan the date early (lets say end of august 2006 the date is fixed for 2007) Than I can and will pay in advance and can asure you I will come. (unless I get verry ill or something... but then you've got the deposit)

I can attest to that...I started the whole 2006 Iceland GTG...LOTS of interest at the beginning but as it got closer and closer, people were dropping out like flies and I ended up doing it on my own.

And was it good??? Tell us your expirience Doc!!! Love to hear it!!
It sucks that so many people dropped out. Well what ever happens I'm going to Iceland august or sept. 2007 :D

there is always the chance of some people dropping out, but with great planing I think it could work.

the GTG held by Nasti and Kiwi went great, I think there was only one that didn't show, and that was due to illness.

I am trying to get one of Icelands greates landscape photographer to hold a lecture for us about landscape photography and show us some of his work at some point in the trip, hopefully in the beginning, who it is I can't say yet, because if he can't I'll just try to get another great photographer.

the hotels can be canceled without penalty 2 days ahead, so if I have all confirmed 3 days before the GTG I can cancel the rooms that will not be used, but the bus can't be canceled so there will probably be a deposit for the seat on the bus required, there might be 29 persons coming and then we would need to get a bus that is for 35 persons, but if 3 drops out then a 26 persons bus would be enough and a bit cheaper, but can't be changed with such a short notice because they are fully booked to the end of oktober. and it wouldn't be fair to raise the price for those attending, therefore the deposit ;)

and as a group I think it would be smart to book the restaurants aswell, some are really busy during the summer, but still something you must try.

what if there is somone on the trip with busdriving licanse? that is half cheaper.

I know a few busdrivers, thats why i know and on all the kindergarden tours one of the fathers drove to bring down the prices

just my personal musings :p

maybe im overthinking things, lol.

I tend to over organice things, but booking places like restourants for dinners and such is realy great. Also like in Sólheimar. they back lunch and/or picknick (nesti) for groups.

I have a licence to drive a bus, and I used to drive for "hitt Húsið" adventure tours for kids 16-25 years old, I wouldn't want to drive during a 7-10 day long trip, then it would just be a job, you get really tired after driving a bus for 4-6 hours, so you wouldn't be able to participate in everything that goes on after driving with full attention.

I'd rather pay a professional busdriver and be a part of the group myself ;)

Dan i do understand that. but what if one of the mates(maki?) has licanse:p hehe

Holy cow! I did a double take - I misread the timing and thought this was next month already. It's NEXT year! (Keeping track of time is sometimes a difficult thing!)

Caught my eye though, because my wife and I will be visiting this September via a repositioning cruise. We'll be in Iceland Sep 8, 9 & 10, stopping in Akureyri, Isafjordur & Reykjavik.

We are so looking forward to seeing where so many top notch pictures are coming from!

I think the GTG will be in late August or september, there will be another GTG in Muenster next year in June, and we have to let some time pass before the GTG in Iceland, as so many people want to attend both, but can't afford to travel both to Muenster and Iceland within a few weeks period.

it will be cheaper, both flight and hotel will be cheaper, and probably the bus to, and there is a bigger chance of getting enough available rooms for the group at the hotels.

I have spoken to some of the hotel managers about the GTG and asked if we would get an even better deal in return for some prints of the local landscape, and they thought it was a great idea, so who is willing to trade a print for a good discount at the hotels ?

it must be high quality prints in A3 size, I have the Epson 2100 and am willing to let people print on it during the trip, you just have to pay for paper and ink.
or there are a few printshops around the country that can print for you, but prints must be delivered before the end of the trip to recieve the extra discount... and it all depends on the quality and quantity of landscape pictures how much the discount will be, but I know it will be generous....

I'd certainly be willing to do this, assuming they would be happy for me to have my name and details in small text at a lower corner... and assuming they like anything I take well enough.

For my husband and I we'd prefer accommodation with comfortable, ensuite bedrooms. We're past the days of hostels and shared bathrooms or bathrooms down the hall... Do any of the places you're in discussions with fit that requirement? Do they have websites we could check out?

Thanks!
