Oh hid the fawn from us lazy folks huh? =) Stunning picture, and Jimmy I was dead in bed by sunset.. My legs still hurt.

There should be a sign at the top that says this trail will kill you if you havent walked up more than a few flights of steps in the past 5 years..

I still have to go through my shots, I got a few in Big Meadows that look like they might be nice.

Karen... if you happen upon it (and it looks ok), post my close-up shot. I will have some pics to post once I cook them - they're currently raw.

Very much had a good time and it was wonderful getting a chance to meet some fellow DPC'rs. A ton of shots to go thru (all RAW)...

Thought I would post up some people and misc type shots first. I think the volume of scenic shots to go thru is overwhelming initially! ;^)

Photogs

Snapshots (more here)

Misc (couple more here)

BTW - I agree with Karen (khdoss) about needing a sign at the top and I wasn't carrying a MONSTER D2X and 50lb tripod. ;^)

edit to add scenic link.

What sucks is that I was there, but couldn't find you guys... and I got to Big Meadow too late. :(
I got tons of pics too.. will post some soon. I'm SO sorry I missed you guys!!!

After looking at your picture, SJ.. I'm wondering if you were a few mins away from Big Meadow.. at a small little overlook, for sunset Saturday? I was at one and recall seeing some people with tripods and everything set up... and our pictures are eerily similar as far as landscape... here is one of mine:

Say it ain't so Andrea, what a shame! But what a perfect day for an outing, hmm? I hope you'll post some of your favorite shots of the day and you'll get 'credit' for having attended, too :o) Oh, and Jimmy, photoshop Andrea into our group photo, would you?

Andrea - I'm sorry!!! And yes, that was probably me there at that overlook near Big Meadows for sunset. I was one of the ones there with a tripod - I don't know who the other guys were, I just happened to talk to them while we were waiting for the sun to drop. Great shot BTW.

Sure wish we had connected - it was a wonderful day, but would have been better with you included. ;-)

Funny thing is... I was tempted to pop over and ask, but the car I saw had Florida plates so I figured it couldn't be one of you guys. Ah well.. I will do as nova suggests and post my favorite pics from the weekend. :)

Man - I am sorry I missed the gtg. You guys got some wonderful shots, all of you. I made the mistake of going on Friday thinking I would be good to go for back-to-back days of hiking. I was wrong :-)

Handful more scenics... ;^)

Here are the ones that I've edited so far. I know, too much. :) I learned so much on this trip from you all, watching and listening...
Karen, while I would love your camera and its drive-in view finder, I can't afford it yet. I can however afford that pistol grip so its next on my list! My mini Walmart tripod worked (and weighed only 1/2 a lb.) but I still really got to get a new real one. Thanks for all the tips!

BTW - I ended up not shooting my pack mule after it went down. Came in handy for the drive home. ;)

Some of the last ones for me from the gtg. There's a bit of experimenting going on here for me personally... your thoughts appreciated.

This wraps up my scenic shots...can't believe how vivid the colors were in that large field! I switched the camera over to Natural+ mode which is a little richer...minor saturation bump on some.

This was a great trip. Can't imagine how cool it would be to do a fall gtg with the autumn colors!

05/23/2006 12:33:22 PM · #142
Yes it was a good trip. If you're hinting at an autumn redo, I'm in!

Rich, I can relate completely to your situation. Middle age sucks huh? ;?0 Sorry you missed it, though, and I hope you'll post a few pics from Friday.

dahkota, sj, dad: I'll have a chance to browse your photos at a leisurly pace later this evening. I'm working a 3-11 shift but as of this minute am still medically disqualified (no big deal, just a change of meds) and so I expect to have a lot of break time. Nothing better than commenting on dpc photos on Gov't time, eh?

It was fun y'all. Let's do it again soon.

I am ashamed to say I have zero pics from Friday. I practically had to elbow the deer out of my way, they were so thick, but my luck did not hold from last year at this time - I saw zero fawns, and no bucks either. I have so many images of does I did not bother to take any. I came away with a busted mission, but not really from a mental relaxation standpoint. I always enjoy spending several hours in Big Meadows. Very peaceful.

And no, middle age is not going to be something I am going to go into with a lot of grace :-)

Such beautiful pictures guys! And you all look like you had such a good time- I already said that once I know lol.

Now ya'll need to come down to this end of VA:oP

Ya know we have a lot of deer around here. In fact you can see them all over the battlefields in Yorktown every night!
