hehe, yeah, Mia'd go a little nutso with the fawns. Actually I take her walking/hiking at a local park and there are deer all over the place in there. I remember on particular day there was one right by the trail. I didn't even see it and she heard it long before we got to it. She just all of a sudden stopped and crouched low. Freaked me out because there aren't a lot people on the back trail. Then saw the deer. It amazes me how fast she is. All 3 of them play tag and I'll let her go last and she'll run the other two down.
Buster doesn't own the house, the cat does lol. Here's one more picture of Buster. This was after our boy Rocco had emergency surgery and was our daughters idea of telling Buster to be nice to Rocco.

And that is my favorite shot of Rocco. He is my husbands best buddy so I'm going to have it blown up and framed for his birthday in August. He looks like he's old but he's really only 2 years old. I call him my wise old soul. He was abused by his previous owners and we've had to work with him alot to come out of his shell.

Well enough about me and my herd hehe. You all travel safely and have a wonderful time and I can't wait to see all the pictures when you get back! Still aiming to plan something for Williamsburg but will have to wait and see what everyone elses schedule is like.

Ok everybody. We're one week away from our Shenandoah GTG and need to firm up some things.

1) Meeting at Dark Hollow Falls parking lot for those coming in the morning - yes/no?
2) Meet time 9 or 10am?

3) Need a plan to meet with those arriving later. It was mentioned to have lunch at Big Meadows Lodge and get the rest of the group together then? What time for lunch? 12:30pm?

4) A cookout for dinner was mentioned at Cyndane's cabin at Skyland Resort - yes/no? If yes, we'll need the cabin location, approx time, and a list of what to bring. I mention approx time and cabin location for those coming up later or in case the group splinters some during the day. Better to have a plan up front. Yes, I used to be a Boy Scout. ;^)

One other reason for getting some details listed is I'm not sure that cell phone service will be available in this area. Last time I was up there it wasn't.

That's all for now. ;^)

So is this still the plan? Since 9:00 and 10:00 make a huge difference to me (at least a 2 hour travel time) can you all let me know which? I think I've straightened out all my conflicts and can make it. My back is acting up so I may walk slooooowwwww.... :) And my husband is joining us - I need a pack mule. ;)

I think we've settled on 10 o'clock, Courtenay, although some of us have mentioned that we plan to get there earlier. If by some chance you're running late, plan to meet up at lunch in the Big Meadows Lodge. Glad to have that 'mule' along, too (mine had to go out of town). That's my SON I'm referring to, not the Mrs. :o)

Well, this stinks considering this started out as my idea, but I might not be able to make it. :(

It's been years since I've been there, but as I recall it's a long slow drive from one end of the park to the other.

There is actually one other entrance to the park - the Swift Run Gap Entrance Station (between Elkton & Stanardsville) on Rte 33. This is the one I'll be using. It's only about 14 1/2 miles to the Dark Hollow Falls Parking Lot from there. And watch your speed!!! The speed limit throughout the Skyline Drive is 35 mph. ;-)

See y'all at 10:00 am!

Probably a little late for this, and I am sorry for the lateness, but I will not make it to the NoVA GTG.

Our church family has suffered through the loss of a loved church member, a police detective who was killed in the line of duty last week, and my involvement in helping with the funeral and memorial service has put my work schedule WAY behind.

I hope you all have a wonderful time and superb weather.

Have fun!

Was it the police officer killed by that mentally ill boy?

Sorry for your loss.

The death of 2 of our police officers this week has made a huge impact on Northern Virginia, we have never lost an officer in the line of duty. The 2 were ambushed by an 18 year boy who also was killed in the gunfire. Sad sad week. I really need some beautiful nature shots to help me out of this horrible funk.

See you all in the morning... and be sure to do the NO RAIN DANCE!!
Karen and Vince

we may arrive early too maybe get some misty shots..

In case anyone is wondering, I just got off the phone with the guy at Big Meadows Lodge, and he told me that the park gates are staffed 24 hours, park access is $15.00. I took that to mean "per vehicle" but he didn't specify. Charge up those batteries and clear up your CF cards. See y'all in the morning.

Hey guys... sorry to do this but I have to bail. Way too much to get done this weekend. :(

Sorry I can't make it, and I look forward to the next one.

I'm still planning to come, albeit without CJ (aka Terry). I'll look around for the information, but can someone post the MP for Dark Hollow Falls? Seeing as that's how everything on the Skyline Drive is identified, it'll be usefull information.

edit... MP 50.7, from the first page of the thread.

Ray, these are beautiful! Hope mine turn out half as good. Nothing looked like yours through my lens though. I think I need a new lens. :)
