Won't be there since hubby has a bbq gig for a charity. I'm so bummed now! If I did come I'd have to bring the lil one with me and wouldn't get any shooting done lol.

You all have a wonderful time though!

Here is a LINK to a good map of the park. It looks to me like there are only the three park entrances, one each at the northern and southern ends of Skyline Drive, and then the Thornton Gap entrance off Route 211 out of Luray which is what I'll be using. It's been years since I've been there, but as I recall it's a long slow drive from one end of the park to the other.

We'll be missin' you, Kimberly. Sorry it doesn't work out for you. Don't let the kids stop you from coming though, if you get a chance, bring 'em! Heck we'll probably even shoot 'em for you :o)

Problem is I don't think there is anyone really leading this event. Only thing for sure at this point is the meet place - Dark Hollow Falls, and the time being 10am (although I'll probably be early like nova mentioned as well).

Weather forecast looks mostly clear for Saturday - Hooray! ;^)

As best I can tell, the list of likely participants looks like this:

glad2badad
sjcarter
dolphnz8
Cyndane
lhall
dahkota
rich
khdoss
clubjuggle
mcrochip
nova

The plan is to hike to and from Dark Hollow Falls in the morning, followed by lunch at Big Meadows Lodge. No mention of an afternoon itinerary as far as I can see. The possibility of a cookout at Cyndane & family's cabin has been mentioned for the evening has been mentioned but not confirmed.

Kids would include one 5yo spitfire and 3 larges dogs hahahahaha. Well I would maybe be able to get away with only 2 of the dogs since one could be with hubby, but I don't know how crazy people would be about my totin around a 5 yo, a wolf hybrid and a hyper boxer/lab lol.

Somehow that just sounds like too much work haha.

Wow. You certainly have your hands full! ;^) I did notice that there is a no pets rule on the Dark Hollow Falls trail. :(

I am looking forward to it, the weather looks great for Saturday. I will be in Big Meadows for several hours before the hike (and maybe after) looking for fawns as well. Great time of year for it.

yes, such is life at the zoo. WHY we have all these animals is a mystery to me because I only wanted one of them- the wolf hybrid. The other 2 are thanks to hubby. One because the wolf needed a buddy when I worked last year, the other because he's a sucker. All you need to do is tell him the animal is on it's way to the SPCA and he opens the door at home. They cost a fortune to feed too lol.

I would still love to visit that area though. Maybe next summer. We'll have to kennel the herd to do so but looks like such a beautiful place.

Rich, I remember this time last year you went "fawn hunting" and in the same area and came back with some great shots.

Skip, I didn't realize that you were a "maybe" but I'm sorry to hear that you won't be able to make it this time.

Melissa, I can't imagine how much it would cost just to feed the wolf! Nevermind the other two! My little spca-rescued fellow doesn't eat much at all, but the vet bills are atrocious even for this little 16-pounder.

By the way, I do see that rebelgirl and ragamuffingirl have also said that they might make the gtg too but haven't posted recently one way or the other. You ladies plan to show up? The more the merrier...

Yep - last year at almost the exact same time (May 21, 2005) I came across a doe who had given birth to two fawns. It was awesome.

Thread with fawn photos from last year.

What a great outing for you! Our family was at Big Meadows over Memorial Day weekend a couple of years ago and were able to see a couple of fawns (we were on a Park Ranger guided hike). We didn't see any Does with the fawns...that one shot you posted is amazing!

You've got me thinking about getting up in the wee hours of the day to hit the fields as well. ;^)

Logistically, Saturday has become a bit complicated as my wife's vehicle developed transmission trouble this week and is in the shop. Hopefully it will be ready by Saturday (soccer playoff game, and a birthday party one of the kids is attending). Might have to use a rental vehicle myself, and she can catch up later using my vehicle. Always something it seems like... ;^)

Well all 3 dogs get 3 cups of food a day and the wolf gets extra meat at dinner and and extra cup of food. We buy cheap steaks and beef ribs for her and hubby cooks them up. We go through about 3 to 4 bags of dogfood a month- and it's 30 dollars a bag since we don't buy the cheap stuff. The wolf can't have any soy in her diet and we stay away from anything that says chicken meal, corn meal, or animal byproduct- which most of your cheap foods have all those things.

We have too many dogs and two of them need to go lol. The wolf will stay because she is my baby- had her since 4 weeks old and she wouldn't do well going somewhere else anyways since we are her pack.

I'll have to get some new shots of her now that she's lost her undercoat and post them. She's a beauty.

I look forward to seeing everyone there! Can't wait to use my new camera... I'll be all charged up and ready to go! teehee =-)

EDIT: Okay, so it's a few weeks old now - but it's still pretty new to me. I'm learning new stuff about it every day. And I've already racked up a couple thousand shots on it - LOL

Aw hey, sj, it's still a new camera for at least a year! Looking forward to seeing you there, too. And missinSeattle, got any photos of those wild beasts, uh I mean, puppies?

Nova these are old, but they'll do lol. Didn't have time to take any pictures today.
This is Rocco- he's a mutt from the SPCA

This is Buster, he's a boxer lab mix that hubby felt sorry for. A great dog but generally a very needy pain in the you know what. Also our daughters best buddy. DRives me insane with his neediness though lol. Not a great picture of him, but he's in his element here- that's his couch.

And of course my baby. Miakoda. The wolfer- 83& arctic wolf and 16% alaskan malamute.

Awww Kimberly, they are all good looking dogs! That's a great shot of Rocco... Buster looks like he owns the place... and Miakoda, well what can you say but wow, s/he's a beauty. Thanks much for posting your photos. I understand now why you can't make the gtg... wolves and fawns, not a good mix :oO But we'll miss ya... maybe next time.
