Thank you so much for the words of encouragement. I can't believe it's happening. I answered them with a resounding "Yes, I am interested" and the reply came now. Here it is. This is gonna be the last letter I will share to the community. I will keep everything in confidence and mystery afterwards. I think I owe it all to you, thus, the sharing.

Anybody who is familiar with this, what is the meaning of non-exclusive contract? Can I use the images for other purposes? Like dpchallenge competition? Other magazines? Will I retain the copyright?

Comments please. What other questions should I ask them?

"Dear Manuel,

I am very pleased that you are interested in working with us!!!! This is
good news. Allow me to explain to you how we work.

We use photography on cards, dated products (calendars, agendas), as well
as catalogues. We typically like to receive a CD with high resolution
files which we archive and refer to when we are planning and developing
products. Once an image is selected, we contact the photographer and
negotiate the price. Depending on the product on which the photograph
appears, we pay between 400 US dollars and 600 US dollars. Dated products,
for example, only exist for one year, so typically we pay less for the
images that are used. Everything is negotiable, however. We want to be
fair, but we also have to remain within our budget as we produce many
products a year to raise money for children.

Our contracts are nonexclusive and worldwide. The contracts last between
one and five years, but this too is negotiable. We always credit the
photographers on every image used.

I believe this is it. Please let me know if you have any questions. We are
currently looking for core photographers (photographers we can count on to
deliver quality images year after year) and I would be interested in
meeting you to see your full portfolio and to discuss future possibilities.
As it happens I am traveling to Bangkok in June. Will you be around? I will
be there from the 14th to the 28th of June. I will be traveling but if you
will be around, I would like to make an appointment with you. Please let me
know.

If we are able to meet, I could obtain a CD from you then. I would prefer
that as I could hand-pick the images I thought would be appropriate for our
products (you have so many!).

Thank you again for your interest and looking forward to hearing back from
you. "

Yes, "non-exclusive" means you can also use the photo for other purposes, license it, etc. You just can't take it away from them (give an exclusive license to someone else) during the contract period.

Those prices sound in line for ordinary, rights-managed "stock" imagery; combined with the photo credits and the nature of the organization, it sounds like a good deal to me.

Congratz dude!

I was wondering when you had your show scheduled for in the Philippines? I thought you said you were going to do a gallery show in June? I'm still talking with a friend of mine who wants to make the trip. It's only a few hundred bucks to go, less than the cost of a new lens!

Ditto everything what he said! :) Sounds like a good deal and one I would take if I were offered the same, I am sure you could get more money elsewhere but I mean, who wouldn´t want to support UNICEF, right?
