I have the Rebel XT, and I want to buy the vertical grip that goes on the bottom, making it easier to take vertical pics. Well, a neck strap would obviously get in the way or "choke" me if I'm taking a vertical pic, and a hand strap would only be usefull when I'm taking pics the normal way, and I'd have to remove my hand each time I wanted to take a vertical one. What do other people do?

I remove my hand from the hand strap.

I don't find the neck strap gets in the way. I don't use a hand strap

Ditto. A good quality neck strap with quick releases will also allow you to unclip the right side of the camera to shoot vertical if it bothers you that much. |

I use both the Canon leather handstrap and the Tamrac Neoprene Boomerang Digital Camera Strap . The Tamrac has quick release clips so you can take it off when you don't really need it, and the neoprene takes the load off your neck if you have a heavy lens on there. |
