I came here, because Biteme talked me in to it. I registered in September 2005, but totally forgot that I registered here. In March 2006 I got a gift membership from the grandwazoo ( I'm still very thankful for that! ) and that was the moment I really started to participate on this website. And I must admit I really enjoy my stay here. Haven't seen annoying discussions yet here, which does occur often on the Dutch forum of which I'm a member too.
The quality of the photos here is much higher and I feel like I can learn more from the great photographers I've seen here. Besides that I really feel comfortable and relaxed here.
So, I'm planning to stay here ;-) |

| I came because I wanted some sort of affirmation of my photograhpy, but soon was humbled. Then I liked the cutting up between some members, because I need a lot of humor and get so much from the boards here. Can't think of a day I haven't laughed at either a really funny photo or some comment. I stayed because for one thing I need a lot of help and get some here, and also because I can't pay for trips and gas to all the places you take photos of, so I get a chance to travel and learn of other cultures by just staying in my chair and enjoying all of your wonderful photos. |

I stumbled across the site while trying to learn how to better use my first DSLR and have stayed for the challenges, the learning, and in a large part to one of the best web communities I've yet heard of. People here are kinder, more helpful, and more genuine than I've found elsewhere, and that really counts for something.

I happened to see a challenge photo by Arnit on the net and thought hah! Icelanders can do that? I'm Icelandic, should be able to find out how they did that ;)

| I came because of the challenges. They give me ideas, make me try new things, and I learn a lot in the process. I stay because this is the most fun and informative photography site I've found. The voting and the interaction of the forums makes this a community. I also am addicted to the update button! |

I stayed to learn, and then for the people, then those people left, and now I'm just here.... because I have no other hobbies really. Then there was this WPL thing, and um. I like the pretty pictures.

| I came here for the competition, photo's and the people. I have found that this is the best site out there. The design of the web site is easy to work thru, the people are fun and there is a lot to learn from this site. |

I never shot film. I was given a tiny plastic camera my mother bought from a gift shop nearly 20 years ago. The film decayed before I finished taking the pictures. Silly me.
Since then, I've had passing interest in photography, but found it too expensive for my pockets as I knew I would be taking a lot of crap (You have NO idea... 100+ outtakes for a single shot *IS* getting a bit less common now, more like 30-50 now... ;).
My mother likes to take pictures and whenever she does a bit of traveling, she takes like 15-20 rolls of film. It often costs her about half as much as the ticket just on film purchase/developing.
She makes huge albums and spends a lot of time on making it just right too.
Strong deterrent.
When digital came out, I got interested again.
I have received precious few compliments from girls (I think there's been 2 of them that weren't in jest or from people who don't actually know me), and one I value greatly came from a friend who is greatly interested in photography. Film photography that is.
She said that I have a way of seeing the beauty in things.
While I have found that this is true, putting it down on film to share it is the tricky bit.
Finding someone who will actually take the time to appreciate it appears to be *MUCH* harder.
I appreciate the beauty in things because my vision sucks. It always has. When I got glasses, it was amazing. I simply never knew that everything didn't look like that (this still affects a part of my automatic perceptions as I my opinions on DOF seem to differ from the norm).
Then I got Contact lenses. I was in awe for a month. Everything was stunningly beautiful. Misty days had a special curiosity for me, probably much as a soft focus lens/filter would... Sharp, but soft...
Now Photography has come to mean a lot more to me as an expression of my enjoyment of the gift of sight. I spare little expense in my pursuit of visual acuity.
This place has helped me to learn how to better put pictures together so as to let other people see the beauty that I do (more than before, but still only the tiniest fraction) so that others might be more inclined to stop and appreciate too. It also provides me with a group of people who are sometimes even interested in what I have to show them.
Fun stuff.
Came for the something, stayed for the everything. |

Don't really remember how I found the site, I assume I googled for digital photography/camera one day about 3 years ago and ended up here.
What I do remember is that I was amazed at the quality of the photos in the front page and otherwise.
When I got into the forums and read a bit I knew that I am addicted. Helpfull people, great community, remarkebly well designed and maintained site and an iceberg of knowledge that I haven't even scraped the surface of yet.
My only problem with the site and the people is that I feel bad I don't have more time to take photos.

So I was bored at work one day (again)...actually, if my boss is reading this, I mean I was bored at my, uhh, other full-time job. Yeah...
Anyway, I was clicking on StumbleUpon in Firefox and DPC popped up.
At the time, all I had was a P&S (used mainly to record the moments of my child's life...4500 + images and counting) and a 35mm film Canon Rebel something or other which I have had for years...I was struggling to get good pictures with my 100-400mm (that was a gift from my father) on the Rebel: I would shoot a few shots in Automatic mode, finish the roll a few months later, get it developed, and was very dissappointed with the results. I didn't know anything (and still don't), and wanted to find out what this lens was capable of...so I clicked on the Equipment>Lens>Canon>100-400mm and saw this:
I was hooked, instantly.
It was at that point when my wife and I had figured that we could drop some coin on a decent dslr, so I used DPC to compare and browse the images taken with different cameras...so she got me a 20D for Christmas, 4 months ago. The fact that I can bang out 300 pictures, and delete them all when they suck - instantly -, has helped me learn so much in a short period of time.
So I entered my first Challenge and got a lucky 5th place finish. The bar was set...(and I'm finding out, the bar is a wee bit too high). :)
DPC and my new camera fit perfectly together, providing the perfect sandbox for me to learn and play...Without much competition in my life, anymore, the Challenges fill that void, but the Challenges also get me thinking about shots that I wouldn't have ever tried. What this means for a complete n00b, is that I have 'homework'...assignments to shoot for. This keeps the camera in my car (er, now in the thief's car who stole it) and has me taking more pictures than I have before.
Also, DPC has reunited me with my long lost twin brother, Pedro. The similar artistic talents are MORE than obvious and from a looks standpoint, it's like looking in a mirror...
SO wierd!! The fact that we are twins, and he's a few years older than me, is still kinda baffling, but I don't let details like that worry me. (Our mother must have had a loooooong labor).
Thank you DPC...*sniff*...for all you've done!!
To sum up: I came here to for equipment comparisons, and stay because Pedro tells me to. |

I came here firstly, due to the fact that my health wasn't good, and began to surf the net, for good quality photos, to satisify my artistic nature.....
By voting and commenting, I found an interest to help take away the pain I have to deal with for 24 hours a day, every day of my life.....
I then won a compition, re Alfresco and sir_bazz, re a years membership to DPC.....
I finally took some images re my "Kodak" DX6490 camera to submit, and I was HOOKED.....
My family saw some of the images, and they brought me my new "Canon" EOS 350, and you now see the results.....
I LOVE everything about DPC, as it gave me back my life..... so Thank-You so much to everyone who has helped me..... I love you all.....

A guy I work with first told me about the site. I came by and entered a few challenges then don't remember why I stopped coming by. Nor do I remember why I came back again. But now I'm addicted. Darn update button.
I was showing the site and the recent challenges to my brother and his wife while on vacation - my bro commented that it looks like most of the stuff is professional. I told him some of it is. And yet he still explained to his 9 year old son that the reason Aunt Debbie has the "good" camera is she's "wicked skilled". Heh. Made my day, anyway.
I stay, in addition to being addicted, for those comments that indicate someone else saw what I wanted to show. Beats a good score every time! |

i've been here for months, looking through troy's account, while troy was gone from the desk(at my job site) every day i looked and wondered how people so devoted could do amazing thing, even with the every day things we use and see turn out so beautiful and then again we also have the occasional... well, the moment i decided to join dpc is when troy sold his camera to me, already knowing the great advantages of great people willing to help, i got back to the one interest i left a while ago.
