Sounds like a blast, but no way I could swing it. Tickets are much to expensive from here. Hope you all have a blast, though!

I / we have a high level of interest and a low expectation of being able to get there....
I don't even know how we would be able to get there from Australia?
Edit: Just found out! Lol
"Connections to Iceland with Austrian Airlines via Vienna start at $2039.00"

I am looking at a couple, don´t remember their names, am at work now and they are bookmarked at home but yes, a couple are in Melbourne and a copule in Sydney so there will probably be one of these two cities we are looking at. Any suggestions would be welcome if you have any :) |

I am very interested and will most likely be able to come. I would also love to take a bicycle tour around if that's an idea that suits some other people. |

I would love to come but the prices from NZ would be HUGE!!!!
However it is far enough in advance that you never know!
Edit From what i gather it would cost about $5000NZ return for one person! Thats just in flights!

Count the only active member in Malta for a flight North, depending on the exact timing. Our work season ends in September, so it would have to be late in the month, but a definite possibilty.

DanSig,
That sounds an interesting idea and I guess the best way to see most of the island.
How long would this take?
(The reason I ask is that i have to be back home on the saturday evening to be at chuech on a sunday.)

Talked with my cute hubby. He's willing to save for it and come with us. We'd also like to bring my 12 yo daughter.

Seems like a pretty good idea rather than been stuck to a single place. |

Talked to the wife... it's too cold there....
Thought maybe if I could find reasonably priced tickets coupled with some outstanding photos from Iceland I could convince her.... Tickets are over $1000 ea. :-(
Doesn't look too good for the home team and I don't think I'll be able to make it. :-(
Thanks for all the effort you're putting into this DanSig, sounds like a blast and I know you guys will have fun!!! Maybe this could become an annual thing with a different location each year.
I vote for the Virgin Islands in 2008... Anyone in favor? |

actually you can get returntickets as low as $449 from a few locations in USA, read my earlier posts.
it's really NOT cold in Iceland in September, we can get temperatures up to 77F and it rarely goes below 50F in September.
if we take a bustrip around Iceland 4-5 days would be enough. the trip is about 1000 miles so 200 miles each day should be ok :)

Yeah, I checked into that... can't find booking for 2007, but I compared price rates for this year and couldn't find anything under $1000 (cursory check). The cities listed are too far to make the trip practical for us. We live in the armpit of the deep south. I think the closest one for us was Orlando which is about a 8-10 hour drive. My wife has conceded to a 3000 mile road trip to Nebraska and back for my family reunion this year so I think next year, she gets pick of vacation spots and unfortunately Iceland is not high on her "gotta go" list. :-( |
