I was asked by some members how I photographed my 'Balance' photo so here goes. It was my quickest idea of any challenge, I knew what I wanted to do almost emmediately after considering the challenge topic. I love to draw so as soon as I started thinking about a pencil I started thinking about a drawing. The first part was pretty straightforward, draw the hand to the correct scale on stiff illustration board. Next, I took a length of string and glued it to the length of the pencil with several inches of string extending beyond the tip of the pencil. The string is hidden on the backside of the pencil. Then I made small hole in the drawing at the tip of the index finger and pulled the string through it and pulled the tip of the pencil tight into the hole and taped the string securely to the backside of the illustration board. And finally I propped the illustration board upside down and several feet up from the ground so that the drawing was facing down with the pencil hanging properly in place and allowing me enough room to position my camera on my tripod. I wanted a minimal amount of shadow from the pencil so I set up in my kitchen which had a lot of even light. I also used another large piece of white illustration board beneath the drawing to try to reflect some more light onto the pencil. With it set like this I had plenty of time to compose the shot and try to make it look good. I wished I had a better location and brighter lights so I could have lighted it better but at least the light was fairly even. I also wished that I had taken some pictures of it set up but I was in a bit of a hurry by another obligation and plus I needed to use my kithen again. But, basically it was pretty simple, The photo was takien upside down so the pencil could hang down straight. That's all there was to it. I thank everyone for your votes and nice comments, it was a real fun challenge.

Congrats on yet another First Place finish Tim! If you keep this up I am gonna try and start a movement to get you "hobbled" by only allowing you to submit in Black and White ' - ) (Not that I imagine it would make any difference...)
I admit I was wrong in how you set this shot up. I thought you had used an eraser or some other stiff medium to support the pencil from below (balanced it, if you will) then took shot from above.
A very nice shot indeed.
