I'm thinking of running a photography bracket tournament as a fundraiser for my MS Challenge Walk.
If I do this, it would be open to exactly 64 photographers. The entry fee would be $10, with a $25 for making the final 4, $50 for making the finals, and $100 to the overall winner.
IF I DO THIS, I would do the bracketing one of two ways:
1. Break the entrants up into four groups of 16. Assign seeds based on average DPC vote received. 1st seed plays 16th, 2nd plays 15th, etc, in each group. (This is the same way the NCAA tournament works).
2. Assign seeding randomly
In either case, contestants would enter either Exclusive Open challenge each week. The member of each pair earning the highest score that week would advance.
I need to know the following FROM PEOPLE WHO WOULD PROBABLY ENTER AND PAY THE $10 ONLY PLEASE:
1. Which bracketing option do you prefer?
2. Would you still enter if the other option were used?
3. What is your average vote received?
Thanks,
Terry

In the spirit of fund-raising, I believe random seeds would be more equitable and more fun. In fact, I might go so far as to say you should consider seeding the top 32 on one side and the bottom 32 on the other side, with random pairings on each side; thus encouraging a David vs Goliath showdown for the top prize :-)
Average vote received 5.4099
You can count me in either way.
Robt.

I'll support this! I can commit $10 (US funds of course :) )
I don't really care about the bracketing, but if I had to choose, I'd choose random
My avg received is 5.4445
My only condition is that I be pmed on when this starts, how to pay you, etc because I often get confused on what's going on in a thread when they get long... Or keep your first post updated to what's happening...

I'd be interested also as this is for a good cause.
As for bracketing method - either way.
I would enter no matter which is chosen.
My avg. : 5.2506
Just as pidge mentioned - I too would appreciate a PM when this starts along with the particulars.

Man, maybe we do need a bracket forum around here. What is this like 4 or 5 now going on? Great stuff. I'd like to see it continue.
I'm guessing you will start before Easter so I will stay out. I'd be interested otherwise. |

Edit to add: I guess 'either' doesn't really answer your first question, rather the second. I prefer NCAA style. And my current Avg Vote Received: 5.3150
