Hey another fellow Fuji user :) I see you have been using the Fuji S-series for 3 models straight, sweet! The S7000 that you're using is one great camera, too bad I cant say the same for my S5600 - I've already found some limits to what it could do. Right now, my biggest complaint is details and dynamic range. I get blown-outs so often I feel like crying (ok, maybe not, but you get the picture)
anyway, here's Fuji dSLR that seem unpopular over here in DPC? I find it rather "attractive" :)

Fuji SLR's use Nikon Lenses...you might as well get a Nikon...less noise...;)!

My biggest temptation is the 5D. I've ordered it so many times it isn't funny. I get to the submit order page at B&H and then back out. Then I usually wind up buying a lens or something. This last time I had it ordered I done the same thing as usual and wound up buying a 1.4x Canon converter for my 70-200mm. Next time I'll get a flash or something. I need the flash anyway by September. The company my wife works is having a 150th birthday party and they've hired Jay Leno as the after dinner entertainment. So I need a good flash for that but have a few months yet to get it.

I realize that Fuji has a bad naming convention when it comes to camera model numbers.
Like, the S5200 and the S5600 are the same cameras but just given different numbers, duh.

I just got my current camera camera for a few months and already I'm thinking whether I should jump into a dSLR for the larger sensor and better dynamic range and all those exclusives that only the dSLR could offer.
I need help! |
i'll help you !
i think you should buy a new dSLR and minimum 2 lenses, battery grip ... oh yes don't forget 2x2GB memory cards, tripod, UV-Haze filters for your new lenses, and keep an eye on new 105mm macro lens ... you never new when you'll need one.
and of course check lowepro bags and stuff for your new gear :-)
did i help you ?
LOL
j/k
peace,

Don't resist crayon... I loved my 8700, but haven't touched it since the 300D arrived and I only have a 50mm lens... lol.
BTW, having only the one 50mm lens makes you take a look at perspective and angles.

Crayon
I have the opposite problem as you. I'm "downgrading". I've got a whole bunch of DSLR stuff I just "had to have to make me a better photographer" that's sitting in the closet. Got my P&S to use for vacations, stuff like that. Haven't put it down since. So I guess I have no advice ;) Just wanted to give you another point of view. |

Upgrading is fun, though. Here's my question - I have the 300D, which I really rather enjoy, and am starting to work on lenses. BUT, the only complaint I have with the 300D is write time. So to all the other Canon users out there, when I DO decide to upgrade, what do I want? I want to be able to take at least 10 shots in a row without waiting for the card to catch up! |

Buy yourself an SLR - I love my Pentax *ist DS. Then you won't need to buy another camera unless you get really professional - thats the good news....
The bad news is that instead of wanting to buy cameras, you start wanting to buy lenses....
This why I went Pentax - unlike Nik*n and Can*n there is a great range of second hand lenses available (look on ebay). ANY lens built for a Pentax 35mm SLR will work - unlike C&N... even 1950s manual focus stuff works very well with a K mount to m42 adaptor which costs around $20.
The great thing is the glass itself is still great quality, but much cheaper than buying a brand new lens.

Alright, I'm so itching on getting one now (gee thanks for the help, fellas, LOL) but I'll wait a little more to see if any new models will be released and also make the current ones drop a bit - besides, needed the time to save the money (sigh). |

Here's help.
Look at some of the beautiful shots being done without a dSLR--Look at banmorn for example.
Remember that buying the dSLR is just the beginning, then you need lenses, senor cleaning supplies, filters for all those lenses, and a big bag to carry it all in.
And then you need your little camera anyway because many times you won't want to carry all that stuff around.
Now also consider that while you have limited dynamic range and generally more noise, with a small sensor camera you get really deep depth of field, an advantage for some shots.
Also consider that I've found it takes a number of months of shooting to become "optimum" with any camera (well, at least for me). So give it some time. The cameras will only be better when you are ready to upgrade.
Or, if you have lots of money, just do it and get as many cameras and lenses as possible ;)

Okay; This place is NOT the equal of AA, more like happy hour 5 minutes before close :-)
You know you want the SLR deal so why the delay - it's easier to just do it now cause you know you will anyway (then it's just upgrades and better lenses and more upgrades and another lens and...) :-)) Besides as Neil says, you will want both anyway. That help any? :) |

If you splurge on the dSLR, youre gonna wanna spend all your money on lenses and flashes and all that fun stuff too. Youve been warned. haha

What was it about the dSLR that initially made you get one?
