Haven't read the whole thread... but mostly the top entries.... I like it the way it is. Keeps this site apart from the rest.

I agree with Karen Bryan... let's keep it the way it is.

We would only see the comments made during the challenge.
I agree with Spiller..We are basically honest people here and I vote what I think but I can see where the temptation could happen if an unusually bad comment came across and the next picture one rated felt the frustration in an angry low score.

Basicaly honest...hmmmmm. But you might all get better scores from me if I didn't know how little you think of my own work. Since I think my submission is pretty much just average, I am tempted to use my score as a median point. As an act of revenge! See all my 10's suddenly turning into 7's? I'm just kidding of course, but the temptation is there. Are all so honest as to avoid it? It does bug me that you rate my work some where below last weeks dirt pile pic. Makes me feel like packing up my toys and going home. Maybe the folks handing out 2's and 3's ought to have to fess up and justify their choices. |

In my opinion, a 1,2, or 3 vote is strongly negative. I make it a point to always comment on those...

I put a lot of time into voting (could be more but tell that my employer ;-) I vote on all photos. But voting is so much easier than commenting. It takes a lot more time and effort to type all these words which are in my mind (and translate them before). But commenting would be necessary to explain my vote.
My suggestion was simply designed to ...cause trouble >:-D.
Troublemaker hokie. Without the trouble (and the resulting discussions) it would be a little boring. ;-)
Actually, I am just one of those people who don't have any problem in the world speaking my mind in the middle of 20,000 people so I can't relate to the nervousness others may have about vote scrutiny.
First I thought: "me too" but then... Imagine that after you spoke your mind, one of these people makes clear that it's all stupid nonsense you told them. Now 40,000 (plus minus one) eyeballs look at you. And also imagine that you're not allowed to explain yourself. Not a good feeling... That's what I meant in my above posting. I don't have a problem with other people judging me, but I dislike not being able to respond to their judgement.
Hmm on the other hand that happens in real life all the time...
Photo-sig does open votes. They even have it affect your scores..and I am not advocating that. But I do like the open air environment it creates..
Now you got me... I love openess :-) For openess I would even ignore my bad feeling that I don't know how others react to my vote. So I'm with hokie now :-)
Somehow this thread is two in one ;-) To the original suggestion made by spiller: I understand what you mean, but personally I want my daily (if not hourly) score-thrill. I also don't think that the impact of voters who adapt their votes to their own score, is very low.
