Well, while he did have a valid Texas hunting license, he apparently did not have the $7 Highland Game stamp which was required to be affixed to it.
The local police were also not even notified of the incident, nor allowed to interview the perp at the scene ... a rather an unusual step as well. |

Now, if this man dies, it is a invol. manslaughter, or has enough time elapsed? |

You think maybe we are not being told everything?
Of at least not the whole truth, nothing but the truth ....
I know it would be a shocker to everyone that this would be the case with Dick Cheney and his GW administartion.
Whoops, sorry, rant here we come. |

This is why I would not make a good "officer" of anything - If these types of things required an interview and he skipped town then I would want to have him held and returned (not that you could get that done since it's the two laws thing again). srdanz has an interesting question.... |

That lawyer is going to have a lot of trouble going through airport security with all those pellets in him... |

People routinely get charged with vehicular manslaughter when the victim expires from his injuries weeks after the accident, even months after. So I'd guess he could be charged, if the lawyer does happen to expire from this...

TIME is saying 20 hours went by without notifying the police. Anyone know the laws on this type of thing? |

Honestly, who gives a rats ass about this. Its over, the press got scooped by a local newspaper and they're mad about it. And the national press can't get over it. |

Listening to air america on the way home from work yesterday, they said in Texas a hunting accident did not need to be reported if there was no death involved. Not sure if that's true.

How do you know? Have you ever tried it? There are a lot more misses than hits. You really shouldn't spout off unless you have some clue what you're talking about.

Shows how boring we gun-less Brits are: our deputy prime minister simply punched a guy who through something at him and was praised in the press for standing his ground.
I just dread to think what would have happened if John Prescott did have access to a gun...

Well....he did shoot a lawyer, so as far as I'm concerned he should get a medal.
It is actually fun seeing someone who thinks that he can get away with almost anything because he believes humans are too stupid to notice getting nailed in the booty.

Now the "victim" has had a "minor" heart attack because he has bird shot in his heart. What happens if he dies? Manslaughter? Accident? |

Uh, if you hadn't heard, this administration has said it doesn't have to obey any laws it doesn't want to, since we're "in a state of war." |

The only thing news worthy was he got a ticket for hunting without a license. A brave game warden to give that one out. Other than that, what's the big deal, happens hundreds of times every year, maybe even 1000's. It had nothing to do with national security or the operations of the government, no big deal and only new worthy in the raggs like the Enquirer. Pretty sad when there is not enough bad news in the world that this becomes such a big deal. |

Dave Ross Commentaries:
Feb 14, 2006
FILL IN THE BLANKS
Fill in the Blanks! This is Dave Ross.
Yes, Fill in the Blanks, the feature that allows you, the ordinary listener, to fill in the ...BLANKS.
Today’s subject: Full Disclosure.
It’s now becoming clear that the news of the Vice President’s hunting accident was inexplicably ...DELAYED.
It took an hour and a half to inform ...THE PRESIDENT, it took 12 hours to inform ...SCOTT McCLELLAN, and of course nobody even thought to call ...FEMA.
Which is why the vice president had to ...FILL HIS OWN SANDBAGS.
But the most serious delay, was the delay in informing... THE PRESS.
Right.
As we know, whenever a vice president shoots someone, the first thing his office should do is ...CALL REPORTERS, just like ...AARON BURR DID.
Right.
In this case, the news was delayed for about ...TWENTY-ONE HOURS,
wasting precious time that could have been spent ...WRITING BETTER JOKES.
But the incident also taught us all an important lesson in ...PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. Indeed, Harry Whittington, the victim, has said the accident was actually his fault, because he ...RESEMBLES A SMALL GAME BIRD.
No!
Let’s try that again. He said it was actually his fault because he ...GOT IN THE WAY.
Yes.
Because as we all know, guns don’t injure people, it’s ...GETTING IN THE WAY OF A GUN... that injures people.
Right.
In fact, studies show that far fewer people would be shot if, in the moments before they were shot, they had just ...GOTTEN THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY.
In any case, it appears that Mr. Whittington has ...LEARNED HIS LESSON.
And if not, he’ll be reminded of it every time he ... SETS OFF A METAL DETECTOR.
Very good.

HUNTING
Men with guns. This is Dave Ross.
The Vice President’s hunting buddy, Harry Whittington, is in stable condition after that accidental peppering from the vice president’s shotgun over the weekend.
As you’ve heard Mr. Whittington was looking for a bird in the tall grass, when a second covey of quail suddenly flushed and Mr. Cheney took a shot, not realizing Mr. Whittington had wandered into the line of fire.
Ouch.
But just flesh wounds; in fact to quote the hospital spokesman, Mr. Whittington is not simply stable, he is VERY stable. Which tells me he may in fact be BETTER off now than before he was shot.
So, probably no investigation necessary; Mr. Whittington, as we’ve heard, failed to announce that he had wandered into the line of fire... because apparently it was his responsibility to know where the vice President might be shooting. Except that – well, I checked NRA Rule number one for gun handling, and it says, quote: “...be aware of the area beyond your target. This means observing your prospective area of fire before you shoot. Never fire in a direction in which there are people or any other potential for mishap. Think first. Shoot second.”
This, I’m afraid, does not appear to leave any room for the excuse that someone “wandered into the field of fire” and...
Wait a minute. OK, hang on a second. I’m being told that according to an opinion from the Attorney General, the phrase “Think First, Shoot Second” doesn’t apply here. For the reason that... just a moment...
I’m being told there doesn’t have to be a reason, and... what’s that? And that my time is up. |

FUnny that gore's little anti america speach telling the saudi's how they should have all these reasons to hate the US in Saudi doesn't even make the news, but people can't get enough of a simple hunting accident and who told what when???
Also, per Michael Moore, the lawyer is already dead and they are trying to figure out a way to cover it up.
Also interesting why this isn't in rant yet :)

I know its a simple hunting accident, but its who was involved that makes it news worthy.
People get busted for drunk driving everyday also, so If Cheney got caught for a DUI, that wouldnt be news worthy either, because it happens all the time.
That might be a bad example, but I think you know what I mean. |

Apparently one of the pellets shifted and contacted the heart, and caused the shooting victim to have a heart attack. Looks like the results of this breach of hunting rules might get more serious than was originally thought. Wasn't this a flesh wound yesterday? Hmmm, why does this sound familiar. link.
