What about having a section of the forum dedicated twords "alternative entries" where people can post pictures they didn't submit to the challenge.. For example, if someone has a good picture, but doesn't fall in the exposure date, or if they had multiple good pictures, and could only submit one, etc. Just an idea. |

We've definitely had this idea, and I think it's a great one :)
Langdon and I are trying to keep up! ... We'll add it soon.

Watch the all powerful server being brought to it's knees by indecisive artists with too many alternates!
Seriously though, I really like this idea. :)

One more voice of encouragement. Have only been on for a few days, but love the concept and execution of the site. Site design is excellent - very simple, very useable. I am certain that you guys are putting in a lot of work on this - know that it is appreciated. Good job. Keep it up & many thanks!
Oh yeah, and as for the Alternative Entries page, sounds like a nice idea, but only if it does not end up compromising the main purpose of the site by taxing your bandwidth or storage space too much.

To get around the bandwidth, you could either allow people ONE alternate entry, or just make it a place for people to post links to their own alternate entries on their own server space. None of dpc's bandwidth used then. Wha-la. |

Links are a good idea, especially when there are so many places to post galleries for free.

For those of you who have yahoo accounts, Yahoo lets you have a 30mb 'briefcase' of files (not only photos)... example here:

The alternate entries FORUM section will only allow links to your pictures hosted on own sites.
Having you post your alternate entries to our site would kill our already overwhelmed bandwidth and storage space -- just as moondoggie suggested.
We've considered having a photo critique section of the site (1 entry per week type deal), but we'd have to make this some sort of membership service. We do several GIGS worth of transfer on our busy days, and if not for a clever, (temporary?) workaround, we'd be paying HUGE bills to our host for going over our 4GB monthly limit. Would any of you be interested in this type of paid section for your critiques and photo feedback?
Drew

I'd pay for: * Ability to enter second, open competition (either all the way open, or same set subject, but no editing rules.) * Ability to get critiqued on current photographs and/or works in progress * Ability to see section where others explain in excruciating detail how they went about choosing, setting up, taking, and finishing certain photos. * Tutorials of an itermediate to advanced level (provided by other users for royalties??) * Priority for fixes/idea implementation.
Any other thoughts folks?

I'd happily pay a modest amount - paypal is a good way to do this if you are starting to look.

I'm happy with the current features, but if need be, I would also be willing to pay a "modest amount" for continued membership. This site's the best thing since toasted bread.

We have NO intentions of making any of the current features pay-features ... just trying to accomodate the ever-growing need for more fun and photography :)

I would also be willing to contribute via subscription for any fee-based parts of this site....

I've been surfing around, and IMHO, this is the best site for amateur photographers to get better. I like it the way it is, but I can understand how more "accomplished" photographers might feel limited (I'm just happy when my picture is half-way focused, not to mention lighting, perspective, composition, etc.). If ya'll need to charge some kind of a subscription fee, I think it's reasonable.
The work you must do to maintain this site absolutely astounds me. |

Now I'm starting to feel like an ass for using such a great site to display my talents and never throwing props towards the creators of this site. Thanks for the superbulific site.
