While most of our friends and neighbors are delighted with the 50 degree F temperatures in Massachusetts, my family is NOT.
I thought I'd dust off some snowy photos from last season to post here for all our fellow deprived skiers (and boarders, and sledders, and snowman makers...) to enjoy!

I'm with you! I love snow and so far it's been rain. 50 degrees is spring weather. Is there a snow dance? |

her is the U.P. we have the Heikki Lunta. It goes like this:
1. I REMEMBER BACK IN ë58 WHEN I WAS JUST A LAD
I WENT UP TO THE COPPER COUNTRY HUNTING WITH MY DAD
THE GROUND WAS BARE AND FROZEN SO WE COULDNÃT TRACK NO DEER
SO MY OLD MAN GOT HIS KNAPSACK AND HE FILLED IT UP WITH BEER
HE SAID WE GOTTA TAKE A HIKE WAY OUT IN THE WOODS
THEREÃS THIS GUY NAMED HEIKKI LUNTA HEÃS CRAZY BUT HEÃS GOOD
WEÃLL LET HIM DRINK A COUPLE BEERS AND WHEN HE STARTS TO GLOW
HEÃLL DO THE HEIKKI LUNTA DANCE AND THEN JUST WATCH IT SNOW
CHORUS:
DANCE, DANCE, DANCE HEIKKI LUNTA DANCE
MAKE IT SNOW, SNOW, SNOW HEIKKI LUNTA SNOW
DANCE, DANCE, DANCE HEIKKI LUNTA DANCE
2. I REMEMBER IT WAS CHRISTMAS EVE 15 YEARS AGO
ALL THE KIDS WERE CRYING CAUSE THEY DIDNÃT HAVE NO SNOW
ACCORDING TO THE WEATHERMAN THEY DIDNÃT HAVE A CHANCE
BUT THE WEATHERMAN DONÃT KNOW ABOUT THE HEIKKI LUNTA DANCE
HEIKKI PUT HIS SNOWSHOES ON AND GRABBED A CAN OF BEER
HE PUT ON HIS GIANT PARTRIDGE WINGS AND ANTLERS FROM A DEER
THEN HE GRABBED A CEDAR BRANCH AND DANCED AROUND THE YARD
EVERYBODY SAID THEY NEVER SEEN IT SNOW SO HARD
3. I RECALL A TOURNAMENT OUT AT SUICIDE
ALL THE SNOW WAS MELTING AND WE COULDNÃT GET A RIDE
ONE CRAZY FINN CAME DOWN THE HILL AND LANDED ON THE ROCKS
THEY SENT HIM BACK TO FINLAND IN A HOMEMADE CEDAR BOX
WE LOOKED FOR HEIKKI LUNTA BUT HE WAS NOWHERE TO BE FOUND
WE COULDNÃT DO NO JUMPING WITH NO SNOW ON THE GROUND
IT WAS CARL PELLONPAA WHO FINALLY SAVED THE DAY
WE DID THE HEIKKI LUNTA DANCE I THINK IT SNOWED TILL MAY

I'm another snow lover...and snowboarder. Looking out my window doesn't give me any motivation to hit the slopes. They are predicting snow tomorrow though.
Here are some snow shots from December 31, 2005 taken at the Mount Washington Hotel in NH.

About as close I could come to doing those shots would be to go TP someone's trees. Been years since I've seen snow.

Hi Ellen!
Are you enjoying the weather... or not? I'm sure the African kids are happier with it less cold!

Looks like a fabulous place (they ought to pay you for advertising) Good photos that make me want to GO there NOW.
Nice pics - I especially like the red sleigh.

I live in a snow area, but it's been a mild winter. Here are a couple of shots from this year, plus a favorite from 2 years ago.

Could you send some of that snow over to the UK please?
Moscow is currently -20 Degrees C, though the weather pattern means it is sinking south and coming nowhere near me :-(
I've just bought a new car - Jaguar X-Type, with 4wd and need to try it out!!! |

Happy to hear the Heikki Lunta worked for you. Any one else here wanting snow - just do the Heikki Lunta dance and you'll soon be white.

ShutterPug, have you studied the roots of this song? This Heikki Lunta may have well been an actual person.
Heikki is a Finnish male first name. And 'lunta' is genitive form of Finnish 'lumi' i.e. snow (e.g. 'valkoinen lumi' -> 'white snow'; 'paljon lunta' ->'lots of snow')
And remember the prononciation: 'Hey-kee 'Loon-dah.
But then, perhaps it was 'Heitti lunta' ('he/she/it threw snow') instead?

OK, enough with the dancing! I have 7 inches outside already. Stop stop, I'll never get out of my driveway! I have to drive to Peterborough today! Crimeny it was only supposed to be 3 inches!
***goes off grumbling about wierd snow people*** |

Lot's of Finns lived in the area that Shutterpug is in. They were bigtime miners back in the day. Most of my wife's family hails from up that way. |
