Chimping is when, after a shot on a digital camera, you check the photo in the little LCD....and make a "Ooo, Oooo" sound if you see a good photo.

A sports shooter friend gave me the link to the cool "Chimping " Documentary from sports shooter....exposing the evil "Chimping" behaviour. I had not seen this before.

Chimping Video

Watch the video if you have not seen it..all will be clear my fellow "Chimpsters"! Muhahahahah

LOL...I do that ALL the time. Sometimes I even say things like "YES! THANK YOU!" to a bird or some wildlife when I see them. (until I get home and see the real thing :( Then, sometimes happy, sometimes not. But that is the fun of it!

Total strangers. I've chimped to total strangers. (hangs head in embarassment).

Otherwise, I'm too much of an old filmshooter fogey to remember to most of the time. Though... I am REALLY bad when I do.

One of my prouder moments - my habit passed down to my son. He is now, pound for pound, the chimpiest person I know.

In a new study by the ICC, they found that more than 90% of all digital photographers "Chimp"..............in a related story, the APA found that nearly 10% of all digital photographers lie.

I used to do it but now, my main concern is saving my battery. Even though I keep a spare, and have a car charger, I am conservative. BUT...if hubby is driving, and I've been on a shoot, then on the way home I begin the "review" process, and delete the obviously bad shots. I'm finding myself using the viewfinder more than the lcd too. Gettin' retro I guess...lol

Chimping is not a bad thing unless you are missing other shot opportunities while you do so. I chip constantly when I'm not in some sort of high pressure shooting situation. When I'm out shooting sports for the newspaper, I turn off my LCD so I'm not tempted to chimp. I rarely even look at my sports photos until I get back to the newspaper office.

Yes, I chimp. It's a good way to see if there are photos I can delete in the camera, thus freeing up space on the card for another shot.
