Chimping is when, after a shot on a digital camera, you check the photo in the little LCD....and make a "Ooo, Oooo" sound if you see a good photo.

A sports shooter friend gave me the link to the cool "Chimping " Documentary from sports shooter....exposing the evil "Chimping" behaviour. I had not seen this before.

Chimping Video

Watch the video if you have not seen it..all will be clear my fellow "Chimpsters"! Muhahahahah

I rarely do -- I find my batteries last a really long time if I don't use the video screen. Also, I find I can't tell anything about the quality of the photo from that, only framing and gross exposure characteristics.

LOL!

I know for a fact that Joey Lawrence is a HUGE chimp. (Not in a bad way, just to share) :-)

Not that there's anything wrong with chimping... it's fun!

im pretty bad, at sports events. its a good way to make the ancient batteries on my d1h die faster.

Guilty! I am a Royal Chimper. I live and die by my histogram. So many times, my exposure meter says one thing, but the actual shot needs to be under exposed or over exposed a little. Once you're gone from a shot, you can't get it back, so I do what I can to ensure that I did in fact "get it". I don't trust the picture -- because too many times a shot has looked great in the view finder and then sucked in real life. And lots of times shots that I almost dismissed when looking at it in the viewfinder, ended up being shots that I fell in love with.

I chimp, therefore I am.

I don't make the "ooo ooo" sound, I'm much more likely to be grumbling "that could have been better"

Guilty

I chimp mostly when shooting events, with the histogram preview turned on, mostly making sure I didn't blow the highlights. And occasionally when I think I just shot something totally hot, but with failing closeup vision it's fairly useless on the 20D's screen. :-P

"To CHIMP or not to CHIMP..." there IS no question - of course I CHIMP!

For sure!

It's the only way to work off your photos and improve on them on the spot, I don't see why bad connotation is put on chimping. :-)

Guilty... and then I make everyone look at it on that tiny little display :D

I just wish the 20D had a bigger screen. Then I could chimp better. :-)

Yeah, me too... usually the sound I make is "Dammit!" every time I scroll to the next picture.

Only when I'm drinking. Then it's "Hey, look at this shot". Then you get home to upload it on the computer and it looks like chit.

Remember? We Chimped all the way home from Toronto on the bus.

I feel bad because i remeber going OOoo Ooo! hahaha.

the only big reason i think it's bad is what that last guy said, it could make you miss a shot, or if your showing someone else, make them miss a shot. But that's sports, if your photographing a bowl of fruit, then why not chimp.
