If you make all that the background for a macro of a flea on a puppy's nose I think you'll have it covered ...

Don't forget to include the woman in the scarf with the colored pencils too.

You guys are all forgetting the money! Show me the Money!

taking a shot of a naked babe tends to do well here as well...just title it to fit any challenge, as long as theres flesh :)

( or seal the deal with the naked babe, puppy, cute kid, all standing in shallow water at sunset...)

I'm totally with you man! Nothing wrong with going for the crowds once in a while; it's really the best way to judge if you are a good judge of how others judge photographs. Might even learn a thing or two in the process. Just don't get too sucked into it. :)

Once you see my photos come off the frontpage I've had my dpc ribbon kick for a good while. expect a bit more of the good old fun and unusual stuff from me soon.

Hey u are awesome!! I was wondering how you started dominating all of a sudden..So I see it was a concious choice to appease the masses...I am impressed!!
Now climb back out of the box, baby!!

I was starting to do quite well with images that were personal and my own that I liked much more than any of my ribbon winners but it just got too frustrating when they started coming in 4th and 5th place. I was so near ribbon territory that I could taste it! Now that my burning need for acceptance has been met I can move back into my little hole.

Ok...I will write up an official report on my findings and what I have learned once the next 10 challenges are over. I'll be starting with the Fantasy challenge...

Haha...this will be fun. It's kinda like...I'm going out of my own box in order to be inside the box. I played around today with some shots and I gotta admit, taking cliche pictures is harder than it looks. For me at least...

I'd actually paint the rose with the light, instead of using another source to light it.

I made a dismal foray into light painting my own way a little while back. It got me looking at different ways to directionalize light.

I applied principles of laminar water flow and was rather unsuccessful. I will be working on it later.

Light painting is really fun even if you have a crummy camera. Try playing with 5-10 second exposures and get a feel for it, noise and everything.

Play with different types of lights. Lasers, red and green. LED's white, blue, red. Flashing LED's. WOO weird strobing! LED's are a lot of fun. Try sticking different lengths of straws over the end of an LED for more directionalization. I also have a 10W Halogen Bicycle light. You could take a trip down to your local battery direct store and ask them what kind of battery would work well with a 5-10W halogen. Then, just build a hand-held flashlight with a paper towel tube covered with aluminum foil around a small Halogen spotlight (INSULATE THE PAPER TO PREVENT BURNING) and hook up the batteries. I am overdue for a trip down to my battery dealer...

The fun thing is that if you use a paper towel tube and build it over a light, you should be able to set it up to be exactly the right size to use more tubes for extenders for REALLY directional light...

Using steam or fog can create some really fun effects too.

I'm still playing around with this. My sister hates it when I stay up really late to play photography stuff.
