Last challenge we didn't get to critique all the photographers who asked for a critique.
Is there a way to get photographers, who didn't receive a critique on any of the possible one to three requests, at the top of the next week's list with their new request (for the photo(s) submitted for the challenges we are going to critique at that moment)? Even above the cc-members perhaps?
When they haven't submitted to the next challenge their names should be thrown in the random pool again.
Is this possible, does it already happen like this and what do others think about this?

A much easier solution would be to try to get CC members to do at least 4 or 5 critiques per week...
There will be a sorting order for who gets critiques first coming in the future, but I don't have details on it just yet... It will be a simple criteria based selection process...

Then the photos which didn't receive a CC comment only will stack up on top of the queue. The only real solution I see is to get more people join the CC.
I don't know how the current sort order is done, but I think if the photos after the CC members are sorted by score (lowest first) it's more fair. I guess someone who just got a ribbon or scored top ten won't be mad if he/she doesn't get a CC comment ;-)

I had trouble typing that a bit readable. The old photo's aren't put on top of the new list, only if that photographer has entered a new photo, that one will be put on top. So the old one never gets a cc, but the photographer is assured of a cc on his new entry. That was the idea, but I'll see what happens with the sorting process in the future.

The trouble is (for me personally) that I don't like to critique only the lowest scores. It is great fun and a good personal learning process to also look at great photo's and to tell people why I think they are great. By coincedence I got to critique Magnetic's winning sign photo. It makes me think more about how I look at things, that is what I need at the moment as I now know how to operate my camera and what settings to use. But how do I make my composition look great?
Things you discover in good photo's can help you to tell people with less great photo's where they can improve.
So it may be fair to the photographers, but I would get bored of critiquing only the lower scoring ones.

I think that's a fair way to look at the process. Critiquing photos throughout the score range is a good learning tool. I have critiqued a few of the higher scoring photos in recent weeks, and I find it to be a challenge to suggest possible improvements to those as well..

I was afraid to review one of the "good" photos. I used to trade them away until the CC computer made me do a few - My first hard one was Carstens Cheek to Cheek and then Lisa's Train Station. I discovered that they are fun to critique even if all you say is "this is perfect, that is perfect, the other thing is perfect". I suppose the photographer likes the praise too.
So my comment is: Don't burn out your reviewers by expecting too much. Give us a mix of scorers. Thank us nicely (so far everyone has). A CC review is a nice surprise, not a DPC given right. As long as it is fun we'll keep critiquing, if it becomes a chore, we'll quit one by one. Ellen |

Ah, then I got it wrong. Sorry. Yes I agree, that certainly would be a good idea.

Hmmm, yes. From a critiquer standpoint that's true. I forgot that.
I got assigned jmsetzler's landscape photo and after the first "shock" it was a very interesting experience to think about suggestions for improvement on such a good photo. So I agree that the current random order is better.

if someone asked for their photo to be critiqued, and it's not going to be, they should be told that its not going to happen (or is this something that might happen a couple of weeks later, which is fine . . . i don't think there needs to be a terrible rush here, but its important to let people know whether they will be given this feedback or not). i was very suprised to discover some of my past photos had been critiqued, i had no idea (i don't remember if i checked the box or not). also, when a photo is critiqued an e-mail should be sent to the photographer to let them know less work goes to waste. |

I do like the idea of notification that a critique has been done. Is this possible?

It has been discussed. I'm not sure if it will be implemented or not at this point. I'll ask about it again sometime over the weekend.
