I'm taking a photoshop class at college and the first assignment that we have to do is to make a CD cover. I wanted to do something with a washed out look like some cd's and just have a wierd tone to it. I took one and then took a picture of a cement wall with some cracks and overlayed it onto the image. I think it has the look I'm looking for, but my wife says I need to do something else to it and I was looking for some suggestions. The photo is here. Assignment number 1

help would be apreciated cause I don't really have a clue what I'm doing on PS right now. Thanks.

That's pretty good, I like it. All that I would try and change would be to get some definition into the hands and feet so that they dont blend so much into the background.

Also, don't forget to leave a little room for the text, assuming you put any on that is.

Cool. I would turn the opacity on the cement wall layer down a tad.

I'd love to see the finished product!

One idea might be to see the brick wall behind the guy so that it looks like he is blending into the wall. Just a thought. Good job.

Perhaps it's too centered and symetical? Just a bit too controlled for the out-of-control music style?

I really like this idea, and I definitely agree with Konador on the hands and feet - that's the first thing that jumped out at me.

Be sure to let us see your finished product!

this is the final image that I'm going to turn in for my project at school. I didn't really change that much to it, I liked the washed out look. My professor gave me some suggestions. On getting rid of the hard black shadow on my butt because contrast is something that draws your eyes to certain parts on photos. He gave me a really good tip on taking good photographs, I have to ask him about tomorrow to write it down. I thought I knew it and was going to post it, I'll do it tomorrow so I get it exactly right, I know the jist of it, but it sounded better his way. Anyways here's what I'm turning in. "My Own Prison"

Excellent shot and very well done!
I think it would be perfect if the feet were whited out.

Just wanted to say that my photograph did good in the class critique, one of the guys in class said it looked like a Stabbing Westword, or Rammstein(don't know why he thought that, Rammstein is one of my fav bands and they are way more dark, I would have to have fire or something like that in the photograph) I wrote down some of the photography tips my professor told us about what makes a good picture. In order of importance- 1. Value Contrast, 2. Color Intensity, 3. Edges, 4. Composition.
I think that it is a pretty good idea to get better photographs.

BTW, something really cool, tomorrow I'm meeting with one of the English department heads, and I'm taking a couple of my photographs and they are going to be published in some Art and Literature magazine thing. I'll find out more about that tomorrow.
