I've never understood this practice. IMO, you need the texture of the cake to offset and compliment the smooth creamy richness of a good frosting.

...it's like eating the onions and leaving the liver...UNCIVILISED!!!

There's just something about a good frosting! Especially that lumpy kind they put on german chocolate cake...

Well I suppose that would be better then sucking the chocolate off the peanuts then putting the peanut back in the bowl!! Dont ask how I know.
