Oh, um, and what about the "Fight MS - send me money" posts? HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM?

That's 1) not photo related and 2) spam.

Am I wrong? Or just an ass? Because THAT my friends IS a double standard.

As noted in my original post, we allow latitude on the advertising rules when the post is either photography related or charitable in nature.

In addition, so there is absolutely no question as to the validity of my MS walk posts, I seek explicit permission from Drew and Langdon before kicking off each year's campaign. This goes back to early 2002, before I was on Site Council.

We typically don't require that members do that, but as someone whose job it is to help enforce the rules, I feel an obligation to do so.

Again, as I've stated multiple times, we have consistently allowed established users to post advertisements that are charitable in nature, and if you like I can point to dozens of cases where we have allowed it.

In any case, the above threads were posted with explicit written permission from the Administrators, and that permission was obtained in advance. If you like I can try to dig up the email or IM session log, if I still have it.

I am not mad....I just don't understand how I can post a new thread like this:

Try smugmug free for 7 days: Click Here

The above is fine Because it is photography related

But if I start one that says

"Click here and get a free ipod"

it is deleted

THAT IS A DOUBLE STANDARD BOTH ARE SPAM. NO MATTER HOW YOU LOOK AT IT!!!!

Let's put it this way.. posting an offer for a free trial for smugmug helps beginning photographers/members/users that might not know about gallery sites find a way they may be able to get some space and get their work up on the net. This is helpful in a photographic sense, and is clearly a positive thing for a site like this to have.

Posting an offer that forces you to pay for things and talk a bunch of friends/family/acquaintances into doing the same thing, for the sole purpose of helping companies bring in revenue, has nothing to do with photographic interests, and doesn't help anyone do anything but become more materialistic.

See the difference?

Is it that difficult?

Do I need graphs? mmmmmm.. graphs.

As stated a few times before, the first is allowed BECAUSE it is photography related. MAybe, because this is a photography site, not a music site or a tech site.

Spam NOUN:
Unsolicited e-mail, often of a commercial nature, sent indiscriminately to multiple mailing lists, individuals, or newsgroups; junk e-mail.

Iindiscriminately is the key word here. Since this is a photography site. It's acceptible to post ads for photography related sites.

Looks like what I said earlier about people being sick of the Site Council Gods is pretty accurate.

I suspect if you polled the general population, they'd lean more towards not being bombarded by spam throughout the forums. Of course, you're always welcome to consider your own opinion to be the popular one, if that's what you'd like to do.

I just think, personally, in my own personal opinion that too many boundaries are overstepped too frequently. There are too many 'un-written' rules, open for their all-mighty interpretation...and often times they seem to interpret it however it seems to benefit them the most...like I said, that's just my opinion formed from my personal experiences and observations...and I am entitled to that.

We have some site council members that just got their drivers license, voting on what I can and can not read or post here. It's also true that there are way too many un-written rules. Yes...there is definitely a popularity contest here. If you voice your opinion here, you will quickly be on the losing end of the contest.

Actually I haven't got my drivers license yet.

Personally, I think the site council do a pretty good job in keeping this site pleasant to visit and if they were not in situ I think it would deteriorate. They have a thankless task as they are never going to please everyone and they get it in the neck whenever there is a dispute. A case of dammed if they do and dammed if they don't!

What does having a driver's license have to do with it? I'm just asking

What it means is that this person is a little wet behind the ears...so to say. I would like someone with a little more life experience censoring what I read here. :)

You do... You have 15 other SC members.
01/09/2006 07:59:25 PM · #68
Well I'd like it to be 16 :) I mean if you ARE going to censor me here...make sure you aren't a minor.
01/09/2006 08:01:20 PM · #69
18 isn't a minor.

People can live a lot of years and still not have the sense God gave a goose. I think age is irrelevant in this issue.

Actaully you are wrong 18 is not a juvenile....you are minor until you are 21.

You may want to check the law where Konador is from, not where you're from. We're not all from USA.
