I started a Manny Librodo thread over at DP Review and directed people to Manny's photo site and they were mighty impressed!
I hang around DP Review to help my company keep an eye out for possibly using the Nikon D200 to help back up some of our Nikon D2x's and all I kept seeing was "Nikon isn't as good as Canon" or " The Nikon D200 isn't any good, I am sending mine back"....and lots of photos that were less than inspiring.
so... I thought I might share some of what Manny had done with the guys at DP Review to help highlight that it is usually the photographer...not the equipment.
Some comments...
............"Stunning! I haven't quite seen the work of every regular on this Nikon forum yet, but IMHO, your friend's work easily tops what I have seen around here."
Another comment....
............."I am just blown away by these shots. His rendering of light and shadow is inspirational."
Manny's work got the same feedback when I showed his photos to the guys I work with...sort of stunned silence at first and then they all told me to get to Bob Llewellyn at National Geographic.
Guys....I keep telling all the techno heads about this site...I tell them to quit being such gearheads and get down and dirty with the photographers...take photos and get nasty!!
BTW...Bob Llewellyn told me that he directed an agent at Corbis to Manny's site...:-D
There is some great talent here at DP Challenge. I think there could be a book made from some of the photos..I wonder if anyone has talked about that?

I joined this site a year back and I never doubted the fact that this is THE place to be on the net to learn. Even though I havent entered any challenges but have been an avid reader at many forums and online lessons trying to gather as much as I can. Having said that, recently I have borrowed a 510 and shall be entering and learning more.
DPC is indeed the mecca for learning.
Cheers! |

As far as I can recall, almost every new camera is greeted by a load of threads on DPReview just slating them. Either through gadget envy, brand loyalty, feelings of expectations not being met or just a failure to read the manual. It all usually settles down eventually.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure that Manny could produce wonderful pictures with almost any camera.

I bet NG needs an asia photog at there disposal. I wonder if he is bothering getting model releases for all his photos? He should, he might make a good living from stock.

Is this what you are refering to? If yes, this is truly impressive indeed. Of course, having a few STUNNINGLY beautiful women to photogragh doesn't hurt. :o) But almost all of it is amazing--I'd buy a book of those!

Damn, and here I am saying California is a great place for photography.
How does anyone make it work as a photographer if they don't live in Nepal??
(You're idea that one place has more photo opportunities than another is just silly) |

I am stunned every time I take a look into Manny's work. You honestly would need more than those 1000 words. :) |

I would love to go just about anywhere in the Far East at this point.
I posted a Steve McCurry thread here that met almost no response but that's his bread and butter and he notes in one video (on his site) how the people do a lot of their living "on the streets" which yields an endless stream of great photo ops...not to mention the vibrant colors. |

TroyMosley--Sure, the location certainly doesn't hurt. But after looking through his work, I'm reasonably convinced that he could make a brilliant picture in my (small, boring) back yard. Seriously, his eye for an amazing photo would work anywhere in the world. And he obviously works hard at it. I'm sure there are several thousand shots on his hard drive that aren't exactly brilliant, but I would guess he hammers away at a shot until he gets it. Patience, talent, hard work--those are the keys anywhere in the world... |

Mr Mosley: do you really think Sweden has more photo opps than New York??? ahahaha
A true and good photographer can make dogshit look like a brilliant idea. Location is important, but it's not necessary.
And, hey, it's the photographers fault if he thinks the location is devoid of photo opps. The world is simply made of infinite frames and compositions.
I hope you see that...or else you're limiting yourself as an artist.

Troy, please do not take offence, but you may be too young or green to understand how awesome Manny is...Do you not get how few photographers could get NG to even look at their work?
I would recommend finding a beautiful model and trying to recreate o few Manny style shots. I think that may help you understand how complex and challenging his work is.
PS I would recommend not offending folks here, they can teach you tons! Be open :)) |

Exactly, you are all taking this like i am discrasing his work, i am not discrasing his work, he goes to all these places rich in photo oppertunities. what would his work be like if he traveled a local area like LA or NY, do you think he would ribbon on DPC,
look at photographers for national geographic, or Time, they go to the photograph, and again i am not saying there NOT good, |
A large amount of the photography in National Geographic is shot in the US.
And anyway, do you not think you can find interesting faces in LA or NY ? Those two cities are probably more ethnically diverse than 90% of the rest of the world.
It really isn't about where you live, even if you hate where you currently live. It isn't much different anywhere else, it's just somewhere else.

show me some, |
Wow!!?! The glass isn't half empty. It's ok to be green. Use it as a tool. Jealousy motivates me sometimes too! (Manny's probably my favorite photographer on this site)
