am I getting any better?
Took these today- a couple of our kitten and a couple of our wolf hybrid. HOw are the eyes? I know it's a bit soft on the one side so I'm going to give it a go again when I have a chance.

and had to add this one of my daughter with one of our other dogs. They were helping each other dig a crater in the backyard - where we put the pull none the less!

I love the capture of sasha, but it seems a bit dark. I think a little fill in flash would help for next time.
I like the wolf eyes. Very dramatic. Same thing though, I feel it could use a little more light.
I think a little post processing will get them to have that pop that would make the pictures outstanding
Nice work! Keep it up!

ty pidge, I was thinking they needed more light but really not sure. Since I'm still very new to all this and have no experience editing I'm really learning a lot about lighting and whatnot. |

Wow! thanks johnan!
Looks like something I could make good use of. Right now I'm hoping for a tripod for christmas. I'd like a macro lens too, but with finances that one is going to be on hold for a while.

Apreggio,
How did you get just her eyes colored?
I need to pull up a psp tutorial program because I'd love to do some photos like that- black and whites with just the eyes colored. Has a lot of impact. |

I have some time to kill while the turkey is in the oven, so for a short tutorial (as reading the manual can be a pain), what you can do to acheive this effect is, well, one of two things. But I prefer this one: You use the paintbrush tool and place it on highlight. Then you set where it says "normal", to "color legacy". You then set your color blocks both to black. Then you get any strong square, circle, etc to use on your picture. You simply just paint from there. Paint over everything you want black and white, and leave the colored sections be.
Another way to do it is to turn the shot to black and white and then go into adjustments for red eye and place color in the eye.
If you have any photos you would like me to do this to for you, I can do it in about 5 minutes and resend it to you.
Here is one I did using the first tutorial with the paintbrush:
Good luck!!

Rose,
You did a much better job explaining than I would have. I recently just learned how to do this myself, but that particular picture is one my roommate Joe did, so I am not sure which way he did it.

Thank you to you both. I have been working with PSP for over a year now, so it has been a bear trying all the different types of things you can do. I am still learning. There is so much new I have learned just in post processing and only recently. PSP is really loaded with nifty stuff, but I have yet to pick up the manual. I just try to get a tutorial from google, and usually I get lucky and find an easy one. LOL...
Anyway, it is all trial and error, but it is a pretty easy process to do this effect. I happened to find out this effect by accident when playing around, so in time a lot will come to you. I have PSP 8, but it is little difference from 7 or even 9 I would imagine. No matter which PSP you have, it is a good system to use.

I never thought a sweet little bichon could look so vicious lol. We have friends who used to breed them and talk about sweet lil dogs.
Sometimes I wish we had small dogs lol. Nope, we've got 3 - one who's about 70 lbs, a boxer who's 80lbs, and our wolf who's 100.
I'll have to see if I can find a good one of the 3 of them together. |
