Thanks Kathleen! See ....I didn't even distinguish between begonias and roses or sunflowers and black eyed susans! :)~ Although I'm pretty sure that the orange one is a mum, not a marigold. These were much taller plants than the marigolds that I know. But then again, look how well I've done so far with botannical nomenclature. :)~

Looks similar to a couple of mine Terry, but I am sorry to say that I don't know what they are.

Here is My Botanics gallery which contains flowers and more. My favorites are the Dahlias, the Roses, and the Water Lilies. Since I recently moved from upstate New York to Florida, I am discovering new flowers here. In the Adirondacks I photographed many wildflowers, but that was before I was blessed with a digital camera. Although I love all flowers, and have grown my share, I am particularly fascinated by wildflowers that do quite well in spite of human encroachment.

I love flowers. They make such a great subject since they're pretty and they stand still! It's nice to see everyone else's shots. I threw together a page of six of mine. If anyone knows what the last one (Wildflower) is, I'd love to know.

The last one - called Wildflower - is a "Japanese Anemone." The one pictured is the lightest pink shade. They also come in a darker rose pink color and white. I once planted 5 plants and not they are all over the place. They are perennials. I love them. They naturalize large areas redily and propigate from both seeds and roots. I could send you lots of seeds this fall if you are interested. Shar

Thanks so much for the info! I took that photo last autumn at an arboretum, and I've been trying ever since to find out what it is. I would love seeds except for the fact that I'm in Zone 3 and the info I found on the web says that they are only hardy to Zone 5. :-(

RC, that is a nice bird of paradise... I believe the plant in your gallery with the triangluar shapes is called a Heliconia or something like that... I beleve your plants are similar to these:
Bird of Paradise Heliconia
Also, in my original post, I forgot to include these:
Unknown Tropical Flower Another Unknown Tropical Flower
The 4 images I posted here were all taken in the Aviary at the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro, NC on July 5th...

Boringly and predictably jmsetzler's and gr8photos' flower photos are stunning. Would you guys consider shooting a couple of duffers so the rest of us can feel good about ourselves?
Here are two of my flower photos:

Don't ask me what they are - I know nothing about plants.

Daisy tulip
Here are some of my flower photos. I entered the tulip photo in the fair and got 3rd place. Do you have any suggestions on what I could have done to make the pictures better?

but thanks for the compliment (the good photos part, not the boring part ;)

I see that in Jmselzers daisy photo, he has the flower in the corner and half of the flower is missing. Is that a rule I should follow and why? Why did you choose to take the photo like that? |

you won 3rd place ... who says you need improvement?? :) your flower shots are nice. i like the daisy best.
all i can say is what i usually do. i take many photos of a flower playing around with the DOF and the angle. i kind of work my way around a flower to try all sorts of wacky angles and maybe find one that's not your average perspective. try closing in and maybe just including part of the flower. i usually try and see how shallow a DOF i can get away with to have the flower in focus but the background as blurry as possible. just some ideas.

I took mine like that just so it would not be the ordinary view. I try to do most of the flowers I shoot form some offbeat perspective :)
